Topgunners
EDITED - now with piccies. (Mobile Phone only) Had to go out and buy another Blue-tooth Dongle. Yesterday we had one of our MOST varied bags in many years of shooting and some of the BEST SHOTS I have seen in any one day. I had a call from a farmer saying his newly drilled wheat was being battered by rooks and so got there at first light and set up a hide etc. I shot steady right from the off and about an hour later Alan dropped young Alex off to me ( happy 16th Birthday) and he set up a hide next to me and we both shot steady till 10.30-11.00am and then the Blackies dried up. In one mad 15 minute spell Alex had a Double-decker AND a Triple-Decker and a Magpie. Then we had 4 come in at once and SHOT ALL 4. Total 36 blackies 1 Magpie 1 Pigeon MAGIC!!!!!!!!! We packed up and met Alan and decided as pigeons were still scarce we would go walk-abouts today. We went to another permission and on 3 fields we shot : 4 Pheasants 1 Rabbit 1 Hare 1 English Partridge We stopped for a coffee break and then moved onto a landfill site and walked that and the boys shot 1 Red legged French Partridge 1 Snipe. Onto another permission and we see a chap who has been metal detecting just leaving and then we spread out all around the field along the hedgerows hoping to flush out a fox and lo & behold young Jack at the top corner of the field has a "bolter" run out in front of him at 15yds. 1 shot--stone dead and what a big DOG FOX he was. We then crossed the road and bagged 2 rabbits and 1 pheasant. At this point I had to leave and visit the cemetery to lay some flowers on my daughter's grave and then met back up with boys for an evening flight down at the river. The 2 "Astronaut's" that Alan shot were amazing and I am sure the Drake had ice on it's head when it landed. BUT in the last fading light of the day ALEX shot another TRIPLE ;all Mallard and then 1 x Wigeon. TOPGUN of the day was young ALEX ;by far. SPLENDID SHOOTING. WOT A FANTASTIC DAY.!!!!!!!!! All in all we had bagged 36 blackies 1 Magpie 1 Pigeon 5 pheasants 2 Partridges 1 Fox 3 Rabbits 1 Hare 1 Snipe 5 Ducks 1 Wigeon. Jack with his "Basil" Rabbit,Hare, Fox,Snipe, Partridge and Pheasants. The only thing missing from a FULL-HOUSE was a GOOSE. Pity this did not happen when NTTF & LB were here. and I am just getting ready to go out for another day's shooting. Dave K Oops , I forgot to mention Jack, who shot his first ever partridge.
