gazzaoo7
As a Noob to shooting, i have done a lot of studying up on the laws, legalities, and available quarry to myself, the problem i am having, is finding somewhere to shoot, all i come across is cloth-eared farmers whom try to persuade me to buy a shotgun and join a club and get an FAC. Im not interested in doing that, i just want a casual, less expensive sport to keep me busy now and again, does anyone have any advice, or, does anyone know how i can find any avail shooting spotys or clubs in the area i live in, Barrow in furness in Cumbria. I do have a car, so i can travel a bit. cheers

Paul in North Lincs.
I would hone your shooting skills first before attempting to go out shooting anything with fur or feather.... If you are a newcomer with little or no knowledge of shooting or hunting you will find it difficult to obtain shooting permission......... Join the target clubs..get used to handling an airgun...get out and about with some experienced men, and learn the art of field craft.. Studying the legalities is no substitute to getting out there and learning first hand..........if you're not prepared to do that then perhaps golf might be a better idea. gazzaoo7
LOL, cheers guys, unfortunatley. there is no airgun clubs i know of around here, its a faunny area, air rifles are frowned upon, people insist you buy a shotgun, get an fac and go duck or deer hunting, of which i have absolutley, no interest, I love my airgub, very budget, SMK B2 Custom, with Richter scopes, and seriously under rated, this thing would nail anything on the pest list, im sure of that, but im not looking to go straight out and start nailing crows, ive got a load of printed targets and stuff, and thats what ill concentrate on, find a place to shoot and hone my skills, my mates have guns, ill get out with them when i can, i just studied the legalities mainly to make sure i didnt leave myself open to arrest or prosecution if i shot a bird not on the list or was to close to a road or something, very strict now the laws and i think everyone should know the law before they go shooting anyway. But thanks guys, im impressed by this community, and looking forward to chatting more with ya all, i deffo new, but im always open to free criticism or advice if anyone has anything that may help, and tips and tricks would be gratefully accepted too
Axe
It sounds like your on the right track, target practice is always important. It will certainly determine wether you and your rifle are able to shoot live quarry or not. A good indication is being able to shoot consistant 1" inch groups at 30 yards. As for the land, try and knock on small holdings or any landowners not so closely related to the farming community. You don't need anything big to start off with if your paper punching. But really, getting in touch with others that shoot is the best way forward for you. They will be able to pass on a wealth of valuable information and who knows, some permission too. pin
Put a post up in the "meet up" section to see if there is anyone else in Cumbria, I know of at least one experienced member up that way, there may be more..
