Underdog
Sorry for late reply but I use to use clear nail varnish on an overshot card. But as others say, stick to the plastic. U.
00buck
Is that with brass cases You used to do that with paper cases
Underdog
Is that with brass cases You used to do that with paper cases Sorry, the brass cases. I made a punch to punch over size cards. I think it was .440". A stack of them on the powder helped seal the gasses in the case better and made a suitable wad. I load my muzzleloaders the same wad wise! (sometimes). I have some brass 12g loads loaded the same but with black powder, I made a punch around .750". A few of them and a fiber wad and more cards gives more umph than with just 12g components in the large brass case. The fiber wad squoshes out on firing. Never fiddled with .410 paper cases. U. deershooter
Vectan A1 is far too fast for .410 apart from the lightest 2 inch 9 gram .410 cartridge SP3 is the Vectan powder of choice for .410 there are over 50 powders inbetween A1 and SP3 TREAD CARFULL I am wary of a new member posting information like this Deershooter
Cranfield
This is a very useful website for fourten home loading, http://www.fourten.org.uk/powder.html Note their comment regarding Vectran A1, "Note :- The required volume of some of these powders (e.g. Vectan A1) are so small that they should be individually weighed." 00buck
I use 410 / 2400 / psb2 powder but think 410 or 2400 is the best its a very fine powder
Dangerous Brian
I have used Vectan SP3 in .410 for loads of 14-21g in both plastic and cork/fibre wad and have found it a nice powder to use with CX50 primers. Don't bother going to 21g with a fibre wad as the pattern is awful. Never tried 21g with a plastic shot cup though.
