Thinking of going for a 22-250 for long range rabbits & the odd Charlie. What do you guys think of this calibre compaired to say a 222. I have a 243 for Charlie + the odd deer, but I'm thinking of another veriation, help keep the economy spinning with the £26 fee ;-)

Only genuine advise please, life's to short for ranters, + I have the screaming skull for that ;-) just hope no one knows her or there could be some cheap firearms going up for sale after she has finished with me :-(

The 22-250 is an aggressive noisy monster in comparison with the easy to shoot and accurate .222.

I don't know how many long range rabbits you are looking for, but your .243 with a light load (if your twist will do it) is FAR better than a 22-250 for the odd one and will save a fortune buying a new gun and all the bits!

Im intrested in this as well as the op

Just put in variation from .223 to .22.250 but since doing this im thinking of asking my fao for a .222 or .204 or something simerler

Question is mine is mostly for lamping of foxes and rabbits but mainly pest control dont always keep or collect the rabbits so not worryed about the state of them most of the time.

Will a .204 or .222 give me enought range 250 yards max of flat shooting? Also how much is ammo, and is it easliey avalibe?

Thanks

Fs

The ballistic advantage over a common or garden .223 rem comes in at in excess of 350 yds at the expense of more noise and far shorter barrel life. Indeed a fast twist .223 is more commonly available than a fast twist 22-250 and that's a better proposition for long range wind wise with heavier and higher BC bullets (drop is hardly ever the issue with missing). Speed wise the .243 you claim to already own will match the 250 with a 55 grn bullet so your getting another gun for nothing really, most factory .243 will shoot 55 grn just fine BTW. The .243 can also shoot bullets around 75 grns fast enough to make no difference at 300 yds drop wise with better BC (wind bucking ability) and very effective fox terminals. Can you place your shots in the Kill zone effectively at those sort of ranges? I say this because only a couple of months ago you were applying for your first FAC. Chances of lancs granting you a gun for long range rabbits? about Nil to be frank
