What makes you think that a Suzuki Grand Vitara is not a proper 4x4 they are in fact one of the most capable off road trucks you can get maybe not as big as a Land Rover but almost as good off road with proper tyres fitted. four-wheel-drive
The only thing to look out for on Suzuki's is rust on the older ones if you can lift the carpets and have a good look underneath they are quite simple to fix if anything dose go wrong so no special problems to look out for. NIGHT SEARCHER
The 2.5 V6 petrol can be trouble. And thirsty. The timing chain gets very noisy and are £500 for the kit plus about £300 to £400 in labour.

MITCHF
I had one, the Peugeot engine.Sold it, wouldn't have another. Do some research, check for the "known" heater plug light 5 second flash and non-start issue. Cheers.
four-wheel-drive
The problem with this is whatever car/truck you care to mention there will be people who have had good ones and people who have had bad ones so in the end it is a wast of time asking best to look on the owners forums. BULL ****. I have had 4 x 4 s for over 30 years and worked on them all has a 4 x 4 mechanic. I find the 2.8 TD shogun are very hard to beat. Very reliable. 30 mpg. And very good off road. With transmission lock and diff lock has standard. Edited March 28, 2013 by NIGHT SEARCHER
