Cambsman
Hi all. Looking for some pointers on a good start point for a hunting load for the Swede. Have got a good target recipe using Viht N160 and 139 grn Scenar heads. Would like something similar to avoid zero issues. All thoughts and advice gratefully received. Cheers. henry d
I use 140gn Hornady interlock soft nose for hunting with 44gn of n160.
Cambsman
Thanks for the reply. Do you have the Hornady reloading book by any chance? If so, could I be cheeky and ask if you could look up the start and max loads for a Hornady 120grn A-Max using N160 and the OAL? Nothing to do with a hunting round but another problem I am working on! Ta.
kent
Just alter you settings to cope and record them. I use a stack of different loads through a single gun. Check your target load primary zero, shoot the new load then dial in the new- to return dial back to the old. There is no predicting were a load will go its down to individual guns, if you get the same zero its just a happy co-insidence
Blunderbuss
From the Vihtavuori manual not Hornady and for a Sierra 120gr not an A-Max but..... N160 start = 45.8, max = 50.7.
kernel gadaffi
Once you get a zero with the Swede, you could use up to 5 different bullet weights and still hit the same point on the target without any scope adjustment. I use 140 grain Hornady Interlocks most of the time with N160 or H4350, Reloader 19 is as good as the other two.
Beretta28g
I use Reloder 22 with a Hornady Interlock head, no load data you have to work that up in your rifle. I find 140gn standard or 120(i think from memory havent bought any for a while) gn Barnes TTSX. Its very accurate.
Blunderbuss
From the Vihtavuori manual not Hornady and for a Sierra 120gr not an A-Max but..... N160 start = 45.8, max = 50.7. Sorry, that should have said 140gr
MiLisCer
Try some 129gr Hornady Interlocks - you can really push them in the swede and I am getting figures of just over 3000fps with mine - I use IMR4831 - Brilliant combo. Also try some Hodgdon H4831SC (meters better being SC) - the loads for this are NOT the same as IMR4831. Ive used these on everything from Muntjac to a big Red Stag which went down really well - minimal meat damage and excellent expansion/energy transfer. Beardo
Here's some Speer 140gr from my book... it also lists a Nosler 140gr Partition Spitzer over N160... 37.0 (2316) - 41.0(2509) Hornady 140gr...
Cambsman
Chaps. Thanks so much for the info. Plenty to consider. Need to get an OAL gauge to get seating depth fine tuned too. Looks like a trip to the shops to stock up. Ta.
