Fox Number 70!!

I have not been to the sheep farm in over a week; the lambs are back out so Charlie would not be that far away. First flick of the lamp and a set of eyes blinked and shot off in a hurry. This has happened twice in the same field so I was sure it was the same fox.

With the rest of the farm to check off I went to come back an hour later and creep into the first field with the shy fox. If there was going to be a chance of a shot it would be long and I would have to be quick. Gun on the quad sticks and I had already clipped my lamp on the scope…a set of eyes showed and he was trotting off, it was already out over 200 and making ground quite fast. A big HEY and he went broadside for a look….Whack from the 75 grain round.

I had to stop 3 times as the ground has been turned over and is hard going, a very satisfying 260 paces back to my sticks.

Morning Tim.

I used the fox caller we both use for the first time yesterday. I was calling for about 15 minutes and a fox came running towards me. And I mean running.

It run right up to the tree I was resting on. 6 feet away.

Now I've been shooting foxes for 20 years and

I've never had a fox run fall speed from 200 yards. WOW is all I can say.

Cheers mate.

What caller are you using?

What caller are you using?

A home made Tenerfield whistle, I bought 3 off Ebay then made a couple and altered the shape a little to take the harshness out.

This allows me to use the same caller rather than changing to the hand squeak….

It just depends on the fox...some come in straight away, some just sit and some run away…

There is no all in one caller as every fox is different and with a bit of luck the one you are calling will be shot.

If you get one you must practice because I brought 2 for mates and they both give up with them!!

70 in just over a year on 225 acres, that's magic, and very well done.

Last couple of outings I've had the same last year's cub run up the bank to stand behind me less than 3 yards away, same fox, same time, same place, a true no-no with a rifle, saving him for later
