TIGHTCHOKE
Yes, ask the farmer, that's what the rest of us do. If he says fibre only then so be it!
The Essex Hunter
Hi all, i have my first shooting permission and i still have a load of clay cartridges left and wandered if i could use them , they are eley first 28grm plastic wad. also should i ask farmer if he doesn't want me to use plastic wad cartridges ? thanks a lot will I only use fibre wad cartridges these days, one farm stipulates them, and so I just changed over. Eley Firsts in 28gram for my pigeon shooting works very well for me. It won’t hurt to ask him and shows you are aware the plastic will not degrade. Martin&Oakley
im no pro, but i used gamebore clear pigeon 30g 6 last weekend for my first shoot and managed to knock a bird down at roughly 60yds. clean kill at 30-40yds easily.

hedge
Most people will have their own ideas but I tend to use 30g or 32g 5's or 6's. Nice and pokey and if you hit the bird you know it's coming down (have recently been shooting crows and they really need a fair whack to bring them down). I have used most brands. I have no real preference. I am lucky to use a box of carts when I shoot so not really bothered about the high load and I'm using my Hatsan semi so felt recoil is less anyway (I also have to use 70mm carts to keep the gun happy). I know that others will use 28g 7's or similar as well and say they work just as well. As long as you are shooting at the right piece of sky then birds should be coming down. Good luck with it. motty
i would use fibre, not worth the risk of loosing ur permission... I shoot for around a dozen farmers. Not one of them has asked if i would use fibre cartridges. I don't think many farmers are the slightest bit bothered what cartridges we use. Sorry, but no matter what shell you use, there will be pricked birds that get away from time to time. There is no way you can guarantee that a hit bird will fall.
