Darno
Anyone used washing line props (the metal extendable ones with a wingnut to adjust the height?? Am thinking of getting some as they are a fraction o the price of hide poles!

steve_b_wales
I used to use the poles before I bought a 'proper' set. To help put the poles in the ground, I cut wooden wedges, which were from 4"x2" timber, and drilled a hole into them, which was the same diameter as the pole. I then stamped the wedges into the ground and pushed the poles into the wedges. It worked everytime.

Darno
Just ordered some of eBay, £14:90 for 4. Cheers all
Asa Bear
£2 each in Home Bargains. Twist lock and already green & black in colour. I carry a hammer and old screw driver to knock holes into hard ground as pilot holes but like Steve's wedges idea.
