But when it comes down to it, it's your work's decision. If I was asked to for the right reasons, i'd have no problems with it.

Its only his works decision if other appropriate methods of resolving the problem, ie, scaring, destroying the nest, bird proofing etc, are ineffective or impracticable.

Leave be. You have no reason under the GL to shoot them. We have a pair knocking around the garden and they are safe until they commit some sin of ommission or commission that is sufficent reason to shoot. Corvids are an entirely different matter. Protecting songbird nests and contents is a real protection job.

I was under the impression it was illegal to disturb nesting birds with rather large fines involved, irespective of species.

 

No, there are exceptions under the GL.

Sorry, I didn't realise it was to prevent serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs or spread of disease. Was just described as a 'big shed', no indication as to waht was being stored in it.

No you're quite right, satisfaction of section is indeed needed.
