rocksaplenty
Just looking at the new rules for 2007. If a farmer lets someone shoot on their land and they shoot a pheasant out of season or shoot something else that they shouldn't. The farmer/ landowner could lose their single payment. reference: Single Payment Scheme Cross Complaince Handbook. Supplement for 2007 Section SMR 1 Wild Birds (page 23-24) E. Your repsonsibility for actions of others (page 27) This might put farmers off letting people shoot on their land?

With the level of shooting that goes on over there that sounds like an absolute dictatorial rule that the farming organisations should tackle immediately. I don't imagine it would be stood for here. One person is not responsible for another in the normal course of life.
al4x
Farmers being the guardians of the Land I can see nothing wrong with that. I know most farmers I know wouldn't dream of shooting game outside the season, and they shouldn't have people on the land who do so I can't see it as a problem to the law abiding shooter

Pedro
I'm with Al4x. If the farmers trusting enough to let you wander around on his land with a lethal barralled weapon, I think the least you can do is abide by the law. P. Pedro
By the way, that's if they get their single payment scheme anyway! They cocked up big style this year and I know a number of farmers who were out of pocket for some time. The Ministry's useless P.

Paul223
The Ministry's useless P. Most government bodies are! If we ran businesses the same way they run dept's the whole country would collapse
rocksaplenty
Would Basc insurance cover the farmer/landowner from loss of single payment should a person who has permission to shoot inadvertently or intentionally shoot a bird out of season? Prooving then actually removing the payment is another matter. As its not something I'm aware they can check by satellite I can't see it being enforced. But is simply there to look greener and more environmentally aware. If it gets continentals who ignore our shooting laws kicked off land I can see it being a good thing. No doubt its another EU law that will be throughout Europe but only enforced here
