Joy with the Progressive

Recommended Posts

After looking at it on the reloading bench for the last 6 weeks, I finally decided that I needed to sit down and get to grips with the Mec Grabber.

After a few lots of spilled lead and powder, a few adjustments and getting my head round trying to keep an eye on 6 things at one time I finally got it sorted and have to say I am very impressed - must have knocked up 350 clay rounds in a couple of hours.

I won't be changing the bushings and bars - it is set for a 28gram plastic wad 7 1/2 and thats the way it will stay. I will bring it out once a month and reload all my clay carts in one day, preferably when it is raining.

I will still continue to use the other loaders but clay loads are a ball ache as we shoot so many of them

Regards

Graham

You need to borrow my electric Dueffe!

Can someone with the know how Google Dueffe.mp4 and post the video....then you will see what I mean!

This machine is air operated....

....mine once belonged to Brit-DanArms but is manually operated with a big lever!

My press is faster than that in the video and even faster when Breadster50 was feeding the shells and indexing.

Great times at Game Fairs with a generator!

Impressive machines for the loader but not so good for the reloader as you need to use new primed cases!

Saying that if you want to free up some space then I will take it off your hands!!!!

Partly true; however, I have replaced the fixed crimp-start assembly with a self indexing MEC pre-crimp; this is fixed to a piece of threaded bar. (I had a tittle machined on the end to allow fixing and free rotation of the pre-crimp).

I see this fella has his oiling sponge fixed to the aluminium base. Mine is clamped to the stabilising upright to the right of the pre-crimp.

Note: I NEVER feed any of my presses with raw, fired cases; all of my fired cases (hulls*) are first inspected and sorted into similar lots. When I have a thousand or so, they are decapped, resized and re-primed. In this way, I only have to concentrate on the actual loading. Once past the powder/shot drop, the press will close and roll the shells perfectly. The Dueffe has a cam that agitates the adjustable powder/shot shuttle, ensuring accurate weights and no bridging.

By fixing inserts in the rotating table, these presses can be converted to any smaller gauge in minutes.

I found this pic of my Dueffe; I hope it helps with my description.

Thanks to Lord Geordie for posting the clip, and hey, Zapp....sorry if I confused you!

* I hate this term, along with 'nitro card'!

The Dueffe was made in Italy. Mine was made in the 1980s. I have only ever seen two of them. One was at Lyalvale in 1992, which I missed buying by ten minutes....the other (the one I own) was from the Brit/DanArms factory in Telford.

Years ago I faxed the Dueffe factory in Italy. I was told that they no longer produced loading equipment and were concentrating on their main business of mattress springing.

Take another look at the video; notice that the spinner forms the roll crimp from the pre-crimp state.
