aris
They seem to have been popular before ww2 - why did tey go out of fashion? To me, they seem ideal for reloading multiple times. Can they be bought in the UK?
00buck
Yes you can get them but only get primers with an fac And you need bigger wads to fit them So I would not go that way if I was you
Vince Green
Is it illegal to give primers to somebody else? Just a thought, and don't just jump in and say of course it is.(where does it actually say it is?) Its not illegal to possess them so as far as I can see the only badly thought out bit of regulation comes when buying from an RFD. Even then diifferent RFDs seem to approach things differently. Anyway, if the primers fit a shotgun cartridge surely they are shotgun primers. I know the average RFD would get twitchy about that but they are afraid of their own shadows. aris
If you look here at the re-loading brass shotgun shells video http://videos.midwayusa.com/index.php/show/musa_-_knowledge_center/reloading/?cat=MUSA%20-%20Knowledge%20Center%3EReloading He mentions 3 different type of primers - not sure what is in use today - those were older casings he had. saddler
Mmm - seems to be a lot or urban whispers & old wives tales bouncing around OKCBC Magtech brass uses a large pistol primer - much cheaper than s/g primers The law states that to buy primers you need to show authority to own them...an SGC plus evidence that the brass cases you are using NEED pistol primers should suffice...if this is not accepted as valid then I'd tell the RFD to get onto the Firearms Dept to see what their opinion is... That said, some folk convert the CBC brass to accept a s/g primer The CBC brass is a thinner walled design than a plastic cartridge of the same size, so you need to go one size up in wads....12-bore brass = 11-bore wads & cards. They CAN be reloaded with basic hand-tools & some correct sized dowel...very easy to do & they don't need resizing or crimping OTHER brass cases take std. primers...just depends on the age/make 410 brass can be made from 303 cases fireformed to expand into the chamber, or gradually neck sized up...in either case anneal them first in a lead pot (2 seconds neck down) ETA: They can be bought in the UK, supposedly...one RFD lists them, but I gave up after about a year of unanswered emails & voicemail to him. They'll be easier to find from European suppliers Edited April 27, 2013 by saddler
Underdog
I use them sometimes with black powder. I opened a punch up to cut card discs. A few of them form a good fitting over powder wad. A standard fiber 12g wad on top and then some more oversized cards squashes out the fiber wad on firing. U.

It is an offence to sell them to someone (subject to exemptions) and is an offence to attempt to purchase them (subject to exemptions). This applies to 'cup type' primers for metallic ammunition. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/35 J. Blackpowder
Knowing sweet all about reloading but an old guy gave me a couple of brass shells years ago stating that these were for a chamberless gun. So thinner walled case in brass would that therefore accomodate a heavier charge of powder and load of lead?? Blackpowder
Andy H
Peter lawman still has 12 bore brass cases in stock but has no more 410's when i visited him last week , You can order s/l pistol primer's and s/l rifle primers from SIARM and they will just ship with anything else you care to order , Large pistol primer's from them cost less than 18-00 per thousand including the 21% italian vat Edited May 6, 2013 by Andy H
