Katzenjammer
What about Joe Public who want to pad out their claims - Whiplash, Emotional Distress etc? There was somebody on here the other day who convinced his Insurance company that they should pay for a new clutch because he had to move the car with four flat tyes. Good for him but the result is higher costs. That said others are saying that their insurance is going down.Yes indeed but what you describe above is a fairly new and growing thing appearing in greater numbers over the past 15 years or so. Perhaps generally the vast majority of people were more honest back in the 70's and before? There were no injury lawyers for you back then. Exposed Corporate greed has bred private individual greed in greater numbers?
Livefast123
A word of warning if you take out a 'cheap' insurance policy. A lot of people are now falling fowl of the fact that a lot of these new cheaper policies don't include driving another vehicle even if they are fully comp and a lot of insurance companies now are putting on the documents that third party cover does not apply if the car is not insured in it's own right, ie if you borrow a mates car that is not insured and use your third party cover then you are not covered. I would read your documents very carefully! Edited May 16, 2013 by Livefast123
Aled
Oh yes shop around, ended up with M&S in 2011 as they offered me a good deal. in 2012 i did the "Go Compare" phoned M&S and they were able to give me the same cover for £8 more per annum. The got my custom as it was close enough, this year they could not, i'm saving £96. Thats money better spent on my leisure activities! Shop around, phone and haggle! Cheers Aled

Livefast123
As said, I would read YOUR policy very carefully as sadly a lot of people assume things and don't bother reading it!
Dekers
This extension on the policy only covers you if you are given a courtesy car if your own is being repaired by a garage. I think people are looking at their OWN policy and quoting this as Universal Insurance fact, that above may apply to your policy but it doesn't to mine. The answer is, as already quoted, I would read your documents very carefully!

jackinbox99
This is all normal part of insurance. They offer you a low premium, you go with that company, then in year 2 they jack the premium up through the roof as they know a certain percentage of people cant be bothered to shop around and will pay it. Every single year I go through the same "game" with my house insurance, motorbike insurance, car insurance, even travel insurance. And every single year I call up the company im insured with who has just offered me £700 renewal, tell them I can get it for £150 via confused.com and without even blinking they say "no problem, we can match that" and drop it straight down in price. Just goes to show how much profit they make if they can drop a £700 premium down to £150 without arguing it. Its pathetic really but just all part & parcel of how insurance works unfortunately. leeds chimp
This extension on the policy only covers you if you are given a courtesy car if your own is being repaired by a garage. No it does not It was first brought in to be used in an emergency. I have DOC extension on my policy. That's means I could drive your car third party only as Long as it's insured under your name and I have your permission some companies now withdraw it as you had people using it all the time instead of being put as a named driver
