karpman
Oil pressure switch maybe. May be worth checking the oil filter too. Is oil getting to the top and I take it there's no nasty knocks or rattles? Karpman

karpman
Hi Karpman,No nasty rattles or knocks. How do i find if oil gets to top,Will try the oil filter and new switch.Cheers for that.Atb Run it for a sec and take the oil filler cap off and make sure there's oil getting up there. Hard to diagnose from a computer unfortunately mate. Was driving an astra back from auction other week and oil pressure light pops on. Turns out the last numpty to service it did chucked the rod that goes down the oil filter away and the pressure was read from the housing. al4x
Personally I wouldn't drive it till you sort it out, it could be a switch issue but if its a pump issue giving low oil pressure you will kill the engine if you keep going

Sean Richo
Do not drive it any further it is very unlikely to be a faulty oil pressure switch. You need to get it to a garage to get the oil pressure checked properly oil pump could be on way out or oil pressure relief valve stuck which can stop oil flowing round engine. Get it checked by a proper mechanic as problem won't go away you may end up needing a new engine if you run it as crank can bend and turbo blows etc if its ran without oil circulating keep us informed on your progress. landrover
check the gauze filter on the lift pump, could be partly clogged and not allowing enough oil up
walshie
Only go places 19 miles away. Seriously though, I doubt it's a switch issue as a switch wouldn't start to play up after 20 miles. Definitely worth getting it checked. Far cheaper than a new engine. Edited May 20, 2013 by walshie
