Well friday was a cracking day here hot and sunny i got home from work at 4 pm and the phone went it was the keeper on a grouse moor is get to shoot roe for he asked if i was up to anything and would i like to come over for a look about as he has seen alot of roe about .we arranged to meet at 6pm at his house and on arrival he said he had a favor to ask me ! he has an old mark 2 escort that is a bare shell and would i do all the body work so he can get it ready for painting (there is always a catch lol) i said yes and after a time of looking he car over we set off for a look we had been out for an hour and seen nout so we decided to go and look at a bit called the tattie burn witch is a long gully that runs for about a mile to a big block of woodland as we drove over we spotted a doe so we stopped to watch her she had a buck in tow and was feednig away quite happly we ranged them at 500 yards i jumped out the motor and got my self sorted i told the keeper that this might take some time so he said he would go and have a look over the rest of the groung and to call him when i was done .we parted company and i set off after my prize now there was little if any cover but with a good wind in my face and time on my hands i started stalking him moving and stopping when they lifted there heads it took me about 35- 40 minutes to get 300 yards i got into about 180 yards and ran out of cover of any sort and was now in plain veiw of the two of them when somthing got the bucks attention ME ! he had spotted me i froze on the spot to let him settle but we was having none of it and started to walk away so i quickly got down for the shot and when he next stopped side on i took the shot whitch in truth was a little low but clipped his heart and he made 50 yards before dropping to the ground dead i would have to say it was probably the best and most enjoyable stalks i have ever had the only down side being i couldnt get a signal to phone the keepr and had to carry him almost half a mile back as by this time it was getting dark and didny fancy trying to walk back for it in the dark

The guy who taught me to paint back in the 80's was the sprayer at the Ford rally body shop in Borham Essex.

So I was brought up on high build primer and Gipfast 60 so it was out the gun and up the road lol…..
