matt fieldcrafter-uk
Hi guys I'm well versed on crow shooting so I understand the basics. crow shooting is my favourite pursuit . But this is new to me , a fella I happened to have a chance conversation with told me that he had shot 125 crows the other year by decoying birds to the edge of wheat or barley when it was milky . He said the crows knew to snap the stem and fold down the crop then eat the milky seeds . He explained he used two bouncers and a couple of decoys to get them in range then shot the above bag . Can anyone that knows of this confirm i,t and give a little more details on the setup ? All the best , matt
squirrelhall
Yes they do on barley not seen it on wheat though maybe the straws too stiff. They need a bit of bare ground down the side of the crop to get stated, they flop down on it to get started then work their way into the crop. I would have thought a normal decoy set up would work
Cranfield
I had several bags over 100 last year of rooks shot over barley and they were doing just what your friend described. It was amazing to see large areas of the field, especially near the margins, with the tops of the crop all bent down.

Greenhunter
In my experience when the wheat is milky the crows will go for it. They go off it as soon as the grains harden up. Its often badgers that start crop damage. It happens every year on one field I shoot on. The crows seem to move in soon after. GH
