HMR Scope - Smicht an B vs. leupold

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a new scope for my CZ HMR.. I have a chance off a Smicht and bender second hand (GERMAN MADE) fixed 6x42 at around £400 or a leupold vx 1 3-9x40 £300. (Brand new)

Does it come into a rimfire rifle having a Smicht and bender scope the same as having 19" alloys on your Peugeot 106?? Is it needed?? Or a leuopold brand new variable scope be ample??

Bearing in mind I possibly could go for a higher powered rifle in the future (but in no rush)

Tonight had a look through a zenith 2.5-10x56 at the edge off dark for rabbits and for brightness it's a class off its own. How's the leuopold fare out at light gathering abitily dawn and dusk?

i was going to ask the same sort of question. iv got a hawke endurance 2.5 x10 56 on 17hmr, a friend then gave me a Nikon monarch 4x20x44 which I thought was very good but a few guys in work are doing a group buy on ziess duralyt 3 x 12 x50 so iv had a very good couple of months so im having one.

Im very new to fac rifles and as far as i can tell scopes are a bit of a mine field. just choose the scope you like best. i would not be persuaded not to fit a scope because the rifle isn't big enough, the hmr is a great rifle to learn your craft to move onto centrefire. Anyway most people scopes cost a lot more than the rifles there sitting on.

I wouldn't go 6x42 on a HMR they are good for deer and possibly .22lr but with the HMR being capable to that little bit further on small vermin I like something like a 4-16, an 8x56 is an option if you want decent glass on it but still from my perspective not the best HMR scope

For a HMR fixed 8 not be a powerful scope at 8x mag? If I was shooting at 40-60 yards 8x magnification - it wouldn't take the magpie Etc to jump to much or he near be out off your sight at 40 yards? Yes it's also to do with what everyone prefers, but would a leuopold be up to the capibility off a Smicht and bender for light gathering and sights? Also fixed scope at 100-150 yards at 6x not be ample enough? I don't no because im not as experienced as most off yourselves - all feedback more than happy with thank you

No point asking anyone this question, only you can answer it. Too many scopes, too many reticles, too many fixed/variable options, too many objective sizes, too many quality questions, too many price variations, etc etc!....and everyone has the perfect scope on their rifle, even though they are all different! :/:good:

BUT, get a scope for the rifle you want to use it on, not a rifle you "MAY" buy in the future!:good:

And, consider all the options.

Just because a scope is GUCCI kit and expensive doesn't mean it's right for you. Lorraine had a Simmons WTC 6.5-20x50 on her HMR for years and the combination was awesome. You can find them @ £120 but not made any more. The HMR is a rimfire so any good air rifle scope will do the job. You just don't need to spend shedloads for a decent scope.

The exact scope I have on my HMR.

Love it.

The HMR is perfect for rabbits at longer ranges, say 70 to 120 yards. To be able to eat them it really has to be head shots. A rabbit head at 100 yards is pretty darned small and I like a fair bit of magnification to see exactly where I am aiming.

I use a Monarch 8-32x50ed and the 32 is good for targets but with hindsight I should have got the 6-24x50

Personally for rabbit head shots at 100 yards or thereabouts a magnification of between 16x and 24x and a stable bipod with a steady hand are the basic requirements.

If it is a straight forward culling operation the target is much bigger (whole body) and lower magnifications tend to appear brighter with a wider field of view and your hand will seem steadier.
