Mrs said she wanted to have a look at the local jumble sale only a 1/2 a mile up the road, last time i went i got an original late 1930 angle poise lamp that had been painted in the 60's for a fiver.........this is what i got for a fiver this time, it was manky and covered in surface rust, and the box is poor with a blue velvet lining ...i will repair all that in the coming days....and its all complete...was made in 1919 and was in the steam workshop in crewe in the apretices school until it closed........its a beaut isnt it ?

Can't beat a good jumble sale! It's a nice old bit of kit, what would it have been used for?

Me and the father in law got to take our pick from a neighbour of his garage after the old boy died, he was an engineer and the gear we got was unreal a lot of old measuring and marking out stuff they don't make kit like that anymore and although I don't have a clue what a lot of the stuff is for it didn't seem right for it to be binned..... I pity who has to clear my garage and sheds out when I peg it

Nice buy tho mate

Very nice!

Do you intend to use it or display it?

i keep all my tools in the shed, my micrometers are all electric,,,once i have done the box and re-lined it i will keep inthe sitting room, as i have other stuff ...like an 1898 miniture sewing machine which i re-built and got it working....it is a tool (the vernier) which i will diffinatly use but not often so it wont stop in the shed........

do you want me to post the sewing machine ? it is a work of art ...

there are some gems to be had, i picked up an 8" mitutoyo vernier calliper and a nice ebony mortice gauge that's older 'n' god for peanuts compared to what they'd cost new.

nice find :good:

if i ever had my time over again i think i would collect and refurbish old engineering instruments and put them in a large plate glass wall unit with glass shelves and the instruments standing on baize .......im fasinated by them....
