well decided to visit a new farm i shot couple weeks ago yesterday ,was quite windy and there were loads of pigeons in the oak trees and flighting from the woods to the trees.50 birds in first tree i came too managed to bag two then waited to see what shot lifted from nearby wood down wind.about hundred birds flighted from wood straight to trees i was under let them land and took one in tree and another leaving, walked on and put a bunny up from setaside then heavens opened  looked like it would of been productive day

retreated back to 4x4 ,looked like it was in for day but decided to pop to garage and grab some lunch ,to see if it stopped as it 50 miles from home so i like stay all day when i call.

sure enough it stopped so i returned to the walk straight away took a bunny walked on 100 yards and put two hares up shot one ,could of took both but i never take more than i need, that ones there for another day, pigeons didnt come back out woods as i started light rain again ended day with 14 rabbits{12 from lamping session in morning) ,1 hare, 4 pigeon not bad for a sod of a day.noticed few birds starting to visit rape fields but nothing much yet.

Remmy!

Sorry to hear you had a wash out man

I will be calling the bloke about the farm i want to go to on Tuesday and make arrangements to go for a good look about to get the lay out of the place.

With any luck i may shoot it either Tuesday or thursday dep on conditions :)

50 mile is a bit of a hike for a wash out though

The Clay grounds today was just as bad though the birds were lifting to around 50 feet from the DTL

And the 5 trap was a pain in the *** too :)

On Saturday after our pheasant shoot had ended for the day we were standing around in the yard next to the shoot hut chatting before heading off to the pub. The shoot hut is next to one of the main woods on the shoot and we noticed a steady stream of birds coming into roost right over out heads.

We did not want to disturb the pheasants anymore that day so no shooting with shot guns but I had my lads Air Arms S410 in the car as he had been plinking targets after the shoot had ended with a couple other of the youngsters.

So grabbed it and walked quietly into the wood and simply stood beside a large oak at the side of a ride to see what showed up. 15 minutes of shooting saw me add 9 pigeons and a squirrel to the bag. I hardly had to move an inch to get the shots.

The crops of these birds had a mix of contents, ivy berries, acorns, beech mast, clover, etc.

Once the pheasant season is over we will start roost shooting with shotguns and the sport can be very good.

1000's of pigeons around here but just try decoying them...impossible!

I took a 90 mile trip up to Norfolk on Saturday as I had been advised that the pigeons were hitting the harvested sugar beat. When I arrived lo and behold there must have been two flocks of around a couple of hundred each at each end of the (relatively small field). Weather was overcast and wind was picking up. Looked promising.

Birds flew off as we arrived............

and didn't see another pigeon all day.

Gave up after five hours for the 90 mile journey back home.
