timmytree
There's nothing to beat decoying to an air rifle! Get the right place, wind in the right direction and a decent hide and it's the best sport you can have. Ok, you're not going to get huge bags but my average last year was seven per trip averaging less than an hour out each time.
chrisjpainter
Yeah I do it. As soon as the rape is cut I'll be out there again with the deeks. Wish the farmer would hurry up! Edited July 18, 2013 by chrisjpainter
Underdog
I love pigeon shooting any which way. The other week I was scorned over the legalities of when one can shoot woodies. After the discussion I formed an opinion that going off what had been pointed out it would illegal to shoot woodies after the crop is harvested as a crop nolonger exists and can not be damaged! Any thoughts? Not being trolish.....it makes no difference to me. Seeing as thousands are taken over stubble I will continue my self! U. Salop Matt
Prevention is better than cure and its an on going job as there are so many. By shooting this harvest time your reducing mumbers in a bid to help protect next years crop ! Am going to give decoying ago this year with the air rifle as offen a bang from a shotgun and they are all gone so hopefully with the quiet air rifle they will keep returning ! You are preventing further crop damage in the field next door or clearing them off the stubble ready for discing and sowing. Technically it could be seen as illegal but then so could putting eggs out for magpies, split rabbits for crows and so on. It seems everything I enjoy is either illegal, immoral or fattening so my motto is bollux, I'm carrying on regardless.

Some Laws are getting stupid, Were best of making the most of it before it is illegal!
brent52
I don't think farmers will be happy with an airgunner trying to protect his valuable crop, apart from large bags noise from a 12 bore is a definite detterant I have both shotgun & air rifle & use them when as

Livestock isn't being disturbed and he's not getting bits of plastic all over his fields. For the last 2 years we've taken more birds on average than the shotgunner, the farmer came out to watch how we operated and how successful we were before he granted me permanent permission over approx 250 acres. evo
I have had some fantastic days shooting pigeons over the decoys, and to be honest is one of the most enjoyable times I have had shooting, I,m out 4 days a week with the air rifles and there is nothing better than watching them fly over and waiting for them to land instead of just blasting away with the shotgun, its also a better feeling once you drop one aswell. a real enjoyable way to conduct pest control, also the wildlife you see about is amazing because you are nearly silent whilst going about your work
timmytree
I'm not sure how you do it evo but I always try to decoy where there's a sitty tree or powerlines and the wind in my face. Incoming birds will nearly always perch up facing away, so do the ones that come to ground so you get an instant shot to the spine. There's a real buzz to it, I enjoy it far more than I ever did with a 12g. I bet our kill ratio is better too!
ThePestControllers
Whats wrong with shooting pigeons for food. by the way i use my air rifle to finish of birds on the floor that were not dropped stone dead plus it saves on cartridges. i love shooting pigeons i trees with air rifle this year i am going to get some lofting pole to decoy them into trees so i can shoot them. cheers Daz

Paul taylor
I decoy with air rifle, was having trouble getting birds to stay on ground with 6x fuds added around 18 half shells and the difference has amazed me I get plenty of time to shoot, only problem I've had lately is them landing too close, feels like cheating at 5m. Still in process of getting SGC though as hitting a moving target and seeing it fall from the sky is fun too also handy for crows that I can decoy but won't land the sneaky ****:)

I go with a shotty from time to time but my preferred choice is my trusty S410! Be nice to no a few lads on here who do the same I freakin LOVE decoying pigeons, both now, under sitty trees as they hit the standing crop and in a couple of weeks now the rape has been sprayed and harvest begins! Simply brilliant sport. Hit them hard enough and you can have a freezer stuffed until Christmas! I average about 9 - 10. Lowest was a blank last year (rape stubble too high, gun ran out of air, wrong sort of wind, other excuses and many of them!) and this year over spring barley drilling, I got my biggest bag of 31. As someone already said, 6 decoys will work, 16 rarely fails!! PS: Are you ever going to do a part 2 of your awesome decoying vid on You Tube? I do shoot with a shotgun every now and again,, believe it or not my biggest bag is with an air rifle. Not saying I dislike a good day out with a shotty, but I prefer my good old S410

I had a few calls from farmers letting me know harvest time is in a few weeks Part 2.... Unfortunately I managed to loose all the footage I had, not go too much into it but I do plan on making more videos this year. I have too much footage hanging around, but no longer have the original footage of the rest of the video you mention, I should take the time to sort it all tbh and start a fresh. The problem is getting the time!!
Salop Matt
This is something i plan to do at some point this year also, the bag may not be huge but it should be worth every second. I have 6 flocked pigeon decoys and 6 flocked crow decoys and a flocked magpie, plus some of my farthers pigeon decoys when i next get chance to half inch them I have shotgun too but i love the air rifles to much !
