walt1980
Just got my first cf, .243 howa 1500, as people have suggested I brought 4 boxes of different ammo to see which suits. Zeroed it fine, found that 2 types were great 1 was ok group and 1 not very good. Question is what do you lot do with the ammo which won't group well? I've got about 18 rounds that I'm not gonna be using and wondered what people did with them?

njc110381
Having quite a good ammo allowance from the start I usually keep them to give to folk I know who buy the same calibre in the future. I suppose if that's not an option you could offer them up on here or shoot them. With my more unusual rounds I just have a bit of a play shooting 2l drink bottles filled with water - maybe give that a try because with a light .243 it's going to give you quite a splash. Lie it down facing you and aim for the lid and I promise the result will make you smile. I've never bothered with the shoot and clean tactic, but that's just my view. Vince Green
Play time! As others have said just use them up on things you don't mind missing but I would be surprised if they were that far out. Just out of interest which brands did you try and how did they do?

walt1980
Like the bottle idea! Found Hornady ballistic tip 58 grn worked well, federal ballistic tip 70 grn wer pretty good but Winchester 100 grn wernt much cop, cldnt get any tighter than 3" at 110 yds. Got remington 100 grn to try now as well. Allowance is buy 100 and hold 150 so space isn't a problem. Just wondered really! Got the 58s down to less than 1". Barrels only had about 80 shots thru it, been told groups may tighten up as it gets used more anyway.
Vince Green
You notice the results were better with the lighter bullets and tailed off as they got heavier. That's pretty much you might expect with the Howa which has a fairly slow twist I believe. Lots of .243s can be fussy about 100g bullets. 3" is still good enough for a fox. Try the Privi 90g at some time. Edited July 21, 2013 by Vince Green

Peskyfoxs
Mine only likes 75gr or smaller, I started reloading as the most accurate were £25-30 a box ! Now use 75gr vmax homeloads and perfectly happy
