Permission obtained but a little help needed

Hi all, this year I moved from just shooting clays to shooting pigeons. I now have two permissions and on one of them is a reasonable sized reservoir. The owner says that there are duck and geese that come in to but the issue is that I can't shoot over it as it is a fishing club. I guess I would have to shoot them as they fly off the lake but have my back to the lake? Would duck or geese calls work here and can anyone recommend any? Or does anyone have a similar situation and can share their tactics? Many thanks in advance.

Make sure you use non-toxic shot too !

Dusk and dawn will be the ideal times but you may get some visit during the day.

Sounds like you may be getting some good shooting this year.

From experience if you can't blow a duck call properly, don't bother. ( from experience )

You will shoot more instead of scaring them off !!

Yes there is a field right next to it. So just swop the pigeon decoys for some duck or geese? I wasn't aware they would decoy or that you could buy them, it'll google search for some. Many thanks.

Look on eBay buddy there's some good second hand duck decoys on there at mo don't bother with calls most don't work ! Just set up under a flight line !!

I have to disagree with the pigeon man when he says that most duck and goose calls don`t work.

Most calls DO work but you might have to spend a significant amount of time, and invest a lot of effort into learning how to operate them correctly.

What you almost cerainly won`t be able to do is to buy a call, either duck or goose, and have it pull in birds straight of the box. They simply don`t work like that.

I would you have two ways of shooting your duck and geese. First is to decoy on any stubble or grass fields for geese . You can also try duck shooting on the stubble or any layed corn. If any of the fields flood in wet weather you can try a night flight with decoys on the flood . Feeding it would help if the water remains long enough. The other way of shooting it is taking the birds on a flight line. You will need to study the birds to see what part of the farm they are crossing at flight before you start shooting and you will need a head wind to keep the duck low. It would be worth checking to see if there and ponds on the farm that could be used as flight ponds.

Do not forget you will have top use non toxic shot.
