steveyg Posted July 30, 2013 Report Share Posted July 30, 2013 Got a text over the weekend from the farmer of my only perm telling me he has started combining...result Decided to do a reccy late yesterday afternoon, its a two hour round trip so decided to go with my kit. On arrival he had only combined half the first field so I decided to set up over some rape..90 mins later two shots no kills.. :( I know...no flight lines or pigeons about so shouldn't have set up...however I would rather be out in a field with no shooting than watch the tv. Walked back to the pea field and he had just finished so decided to set up for an hour or so, 10 shots..5 kills which is a good ratio for me.. Rotary seemed to spook them (tried it in three different locations) so after my first kill set the flapper which seemed to work better (I must invest in a freezer so I can set up with live birds on the flapper and rotary) Can't wait to get back there and hopefully find the pigeons showing an interest. Great hour of sport yesterday and well worth the effort, was lucky with the weather as well, we had what was almost a tropical thunder storm at midday which nearly persuaded me not to go...glad I did Break up on Friday for two weeks, not going away so hopefully get a few days out shooting..happy days Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

gazbev Posted July 30, 2013 Report Share Posted July 30, 2013 Funny isn't it how the magnet can put them right off, on the whole I find that the pull the birds closer but last week it defiantly put them off. I set up deeks in a bare patch in wheat that I had seen pigeons the day before with the magnet set up upwind about forty yards away,set up a super hide,pigeons seemed to be interested from a flight line on someone else's land a couple of hundred yards away but when they came about a hundreds yards away they didn't like a look of it and carried on. I only had three hours so kept tweaking the pattern but decided to pack in with only two shots fired and that was just to stir things up,I turned my magnet off took the arms down and went to get my van which was a five minute walk away,when I was driving back to my stuff bloody pigeons everywhere,they were coming close enough when I was collecting the deeks!
