Malik
I am thinking of part exchanging my current car as it no longer fulfills my requirements. I am looking at either a new Toyota Hilux invincible or the VW Amarok highline Apart from not being able to decide which of the 2 models i like best. Ill test drive them both if possible to decide that. My only concern is the gearbox. I currently drive an automatic but I have no problems and i am very confident with driving a manual. which is the most desirable gearbox people go for when it comes to resale? And which gearbox is the best! Ive driven some awful autos in my time and some annoying manuals too....
al4x
With these you do drop economy wise but they are much of a muchness on resale
four-wheel-drive
I have a manual now but I do miss my my jeep with its 4 speed auto box I do not see the point in gear changing its fun when you are young but in todays cars most of the time its a bore and if you get in a traffic jam with slow moving traffic its hard work. Wiltsmark
| agree with Four wheel drive, with the amount of traffic jams now on the roads I seem to suffer with "clutch knee" a lot more. Much prefer an auto and they have come a long way from the old days where they did use more fuel, they use to be 4 speed so reach between gears was longer so using more fuel, Cars now have 6/8 speed auto boxes to help with the economy. WGD
Auto boxes on a pickup tend to have a serious impact on fuel economy. Of the two you mention, the only comment is that I have heard complaints the Amarok is underpowered so that may be a consideration, especially if you are towing. I've had cluch knee for quite a while and really appreciate one of our cars.... a Honda with constantly variable drive. Super smooth and you can engine brake with it. Gordon R
My wife has been running automatics for the last 15 years. Modern autos are far better than they used to be, without the lag when changing year. I drive it a fair bit and certainly don't miss changing gear. We use it for holidays - a more relaxing journey. My eldest has the big horsepower Volkswagen Touareg with auto box - paddle change. Mega quick and very, very smooth. No lack of performance - it feels quicker than the Cosworth my wife ran, some years ago. Edited August 5, 2013 by Gordon R
