kyska
Although not a shooting vehicle, I'm wondering if anyone would know why my Golf has started making a strange noise. Just pulling off with some lock on, but not always, there is a strange 'tinkling' noise, almost like going over a loose drain cover or similar but quieter? Any ideas? I'll get it looked at, at the weekend, but being a complete dumb*** with anything like this I'd like to maybe have some prior knowledge. Any ideas
triumphant59
Sounds like drive shaft universal joint, does it do in left and right lock or just one way. Parts will be about £70/80 per side plus an hours labour.
Malik
If CV joints are gone. They make a rattle or popping sound as the ball bearings move. Could have been caused from the CV boot being cracked or general wear and tear. Only a guess though
Chr15j
If not the above could be a loose exhaust cowling? Also sign of a dead catalytic converter (mine made that sound when dead)!
kyska
Thanks guys, it mainly does it just as I set off, with a bit of right hand lock. I'll get it looked at, hope its not the CC.

Gordon R
Drive shafts normally make a noise when on full lock at low speeds. Get on a car park and drive around slowly moving from left full lock to right full lock. that normally identifies which side is defective. If all else fails - get on You Tube. A mate identified a defective alternator drive belt tensioner, on a Saab and then played the same noise on his mobile phone, to the startled Saab owner. Amazingly accurate and helpful. Dunkield
It could in fact be the auxiliary belt tensioner, depends on how good you are at describing noises
