markyboy
Well I'm on holiday and today was reccy day ! Headed to a field of standing barley flattened by heavy rain pigeons flying about all over the bit going into field and landing on wires and dropping down. Ideal could try there in morning I thought headed to another area 10 miles out of town with slight drizzle not alot was doing walked the dog around grass field watching a field we got 64 off last wk not alot doing got back to the jeep and rang my pal in that 10 min phone call a flight line appeared from a wood and I watch around 100 coming in dribs and drabs I thought this could be and option. Drove a half mile down road to 2 stubbles of barley one had around 100 pigeons on with a flighline from another direction and around 100 lifted from the trees I though where are we going the mora now ?? I drove back up to the field to have a look at the field we shot last wk to my amazement 300:400 pigeon lifted and flew all over the place ! This could be field but I'm worried they will wary after a few goes at them ! So I drive back home and thought wait a min al go check another permission , barley field nothing on it and as I drove up the track I saw pigeon on the lines I thought no way is this happening watched around 200 lift from bottom corner of flattened wheat and alot on the wires and watched a steady flight line ! What does one do ?? I get myself home and the phone starts ringing a new farm I got this summer I thought he's Mabie wanting a job done, nope just to let you know the barley is off and there's pigeon on, took a drive and steady flight into top of a 60 acre field and in 2 weeks the rapes off !! Spoilt for choice every farm covered in pigeon this area seems to be doing well for pigeon numbers !!! No doubt will go and prob make the wrong decision but there's always Wednesday !!! Lg1
I'd probably bite the bullet and show willing to the new farm! It's good of them to call you so acting on his call I'd say will go down well.... It's good to have the farmers eyes on side! Nice possition to be in tho- either way good luck
markyboy
Good call ! The other farmers are wanting the birds off the standing stuff also !! Give each area a try this wk and show face before somebody else does 👍
motty
At this time of year it can be difficult to know which field to shoot. I now have a few farms with fresh rape stubble to go at. I've had a look at three and have decided where to go today. My recon later should help me decide where to go tomorrow. By the weekend there will be even more choice. It's a hard one to judge. kitchrat
You lucky so-and-so!!! Nothing seems to be attractive to pigeons round here..........., not in double-figure numbers anyway.
JDog
The new farm seems to be the best bet especially as the farmer called you. That sort of thing does not happen often enough and could save hours of driving around and gallons of fuel if it did.
dead eye alan
Lucky boy to have a problem like this, do the new permission first and the rest when you can. Have a great time while you can it wont last long.
