Shooting apprentice wanted

Recommended Posts

Many many years ago when I was a lad my grandfather used to take me out shooting ( mainly to lug stuff about such as hides, decoys and shot game ) and taught me about safe shooting, gun care, game, and field craft. I'm in a position now where I don't have kids, I have large areas of shooting ( golf course's ) and various people have asked me to take them or there kids out shooting.

What I'd like to do is find a couple of eager youngsters who want to learn about the sport I love and introduce them to it safely in a controlled environment and " apprentice " them into the sport. I have taken a few people out only to have them loose interest after a couple of trips and not come out again so this time I'm going to be picky!

I am based in Maidstone and have several shoots within half an hour of the town.

I'm happy to take father & son/ daughter out.

Anyone who comes out MUST be a BASC / countryside alliance member and hold relevant insurance

No gun is required as the first few trips out will be shadowing / learning

If and when I am happy to let you shoot I can provide a gun if you don't already have one.

You must be fit! Some evenings I walk over 4 miles shooting ( mainly on golf courses )

You will be doing some donkey work! If you expect to get on a gun straight away this isn't the opportunity for you!

Existing shooters

I appreciate that ground is at a premium and I have worked bloody hard to secure the ground that I have, I am happy to exchange a few nights accompanied shooting ( I use air rifle , shotgun, rim fire and centre fire ) provided again you're a BASC member and have insurance.

If you are interested please PM me and we can exchange phone numbers and arrange an evening to meet before arraigning any shooting trips.

Thank you to those that have pm's me already I will be getting back to you shortly.

Predominantly the shooting I do is rabbit and fox control unfortunately I don't do an awful lot of decoying or pigeon shooting for those that have expressed an interest.

As I said I'm happy to teach / help anyone that wants to learn but I'm specifically looking to bring youngsters into the sport unless of course the parent wants to learn as well.
