Top restaurants

I have been to a few good uns over the years, but my favourite has to be the 'ivy'. What a cracking place, talk about professional and clean. I've had the most beautiful fresh meals in there, and the price isn't bad either. I reckon you are better off forgetting about local pub meals and just save up and go to a top restaurant instead.

What top restaurants can people on here recommend.?

Was really disappointed last time went to the Ivy - my wife's fish and chips suffered from the fish being overcooked and my hotpot (their signature dish) was pretty average. We went to Dinner in the evening and that was awesome.

Been to many a good establishment and don't mind paying for good food and service - especially if its an occasion.

Although, I don't believe you have to pay excessive amounts for good food - we have some cracking local pubs.

We went to Jamie Oliver Does Italian in Birmingham for a family birthday, it was the most mediocre meal with pretty poor service that we have ever experienced !

We usually stay local and support local eateries.

My girlfriend went to Jamie's Italian and thought it was worse than average. She really wasn't impressed.

We used to have a couple of really good gastro pub type places around here and really couldn't fault the food. But the one is in liquidation due to the owner drinking the profits and one has recently changed chefs, with the previous chef now running a cookery school in between TV appearances. Unfortunately the new chef really doesn't match the old one.

Tom Kitchin's place in Edinburgh, Near the castle. My first taste of 5 star dining and i absolutely loved it. The food and service were a real spectacle. The staff were very knowledgable about the food they served and each dish was explained to us in great detail before we ate it. Wasnt too badly priced either.

L'Enclume in the Lake District is awesome. Think it's just got a 2nd star. Best tasting menu ive ever had, and ive eaten in a dozen or so Michelin starred places. Really liked Nathan Outlaw's place in Rock, and took a client to the Hand & Flowers a while back in Marlow - now that is 'pub food' in another league !

And if you're ever in Ireland, then the Cliff House hotel in Ardmore - the chef is a genius and well deserving of their one star

aaah, a little bit sneaky then, as I had no idea of a restaurant called dinner, you win :good::lol:

No worries - get yourself down there - finest mashed potato in the world !

Don't go out as much as we did ,as I can cook as good, or almost as good, for a fraction of the price.

Only started cooking 6 years ago at 60 using the fruits of my labour in the field. Now I enjoy cooking as much as shooting and cannot bring myself to over pay for average food in our local restaurants , that's not to say there are some excellent eateries out there.
