highdowns hunter
I dont know how true this is as it was sent to me on an e-mail but if it is true beware This was sent out by fleet department - be aware. :yp: The new electronic signs on the M6 were switched on this Tuesday. The bad news is that they are rigged with the SPECS speed cameras. This probably applies to all the new signs being installed on the M62, M60 and M56. SPECS is a computer-camera based system. As you go past the sign a digital camera reads your number plate. When you go past the next sign your number plate is read again. The computer 'knows' how far apart the signs are so it can work out your average speed between the two, or three or four. The system is fully automatic and will issue a ticket without any form of human intervention. It does this for every single vehicle that passes. You will not know you have been caught as the cameras don't flash. They work 24/7, 365 days a year, and theoretically, there's absolutely no limit on the number of tickets that the system can issue. The whole section of the M6 between Knutsford and Preston is wired, both ways. The system is set to trigger a ticket at 78MPH. (Don't take this as a guarantee) Radar detectors will be of no use as SPECS is entirely passive, there is no laser beam to detect. Be warned and spread the news! Will Beasley
Thats supposed to be a massive hoax....at least someone told me that anyway.
Cranfield
A similar thing is done in France, when vehicles can be speed checked, by the time they take to travel between toll booths. I have heard that the M6 story is an Urban Legend (or a hoax) :yp: .

Catamong
An e-mail went around a couple of months ago, with almost identical wording to that one, but it said that the M4 was covered between Reading and Swindon. I suppose the only way to find out is to borrow a mates car, (without his knowledge), and then pick a quiet time to hammer down the fast lane, then wait for about 10 days, give him a ring and ask whats new...:yp:
Columbus Polumbus
We had the Junc 12v - 15 of M4 warning thro official channels at work and asked a mate who is an insp and he is aware of the technology o I thought it must be true? Catamong
Col Pol, I'm pretty sure that they've got the technology, but have they got the balls to put it into action? - Let's be clear about what will happen - all of the law abiding local grandads are going to get zapped for doing 80mph on a clear dry road with good visibility whilst representing no danger to anybody...... Whilst the local criminals are raiding the surrounding countryside at will, knowing that they are totally immune from these cameras because they are all sporting foreign numberplates and they know that the local bill will not bother to try and trace them. leon
I came back from Snodland in Kent two and a half weeks ago with a colleague he was driving and he got a ticket for 81mph on the M1 going past Swindon we didn,t see a copper anywhere and he was notified through the post, hadn,t thought about it much until I just read this post and now I am wondering?:yp:
Columbus Polumbus
I'm pretty sure that they've got the technology, but have they got the balls to put it into action? HH Of course they got the bottle..... what are you thinkin of? These camera's are sited and have been for a few years around the nottingham ring road, they measure speed thro a number of cameras over a given distance a Zap your nicked. so I don't think you need to worry about their bottle. If you annoyed you can write to Mr Darling c/o westminster about the siting of spped camera's who will look into it for you and if they are not sited at blackspots he will have them removed. As with all things they (police) are not really worried about road safety they need to nick you for the money as speeding is a very good cash cow. For your information they also have infra red speed camera's now so they can nick you at night. An awful lot of technology and cash has gone into this, shame its not directed at terrorism or catching the real scum.
The Antipodean
I can asure you boys that the cops have been using this technology for a while just out of Sydney going south they photograph every vehicle going under a bridge and by photographing the same traffic futher south work out the average speed.Luckily they are only issuing tickets to HGVs at the moment thank christ otherwise i would be walking to work. :yp:
