Just running it past the big gun owners on here to see what you think ? if a big bore meet can be set up for next season for owners of vintage/antique 8 & 4 bore breech & muzzle loads who would be up for it ? , perhaps a 3 day meet .

I think there are enough of us on using them to get a meeting organized & I know there are some on here still trying to find one & with luck nest season they will have found one or begged borrowed or stole one ( ok perhaps not stole  ) .

It will take some work on my part to sort this but it will have to be strictly to 8 & 4 guns only or 2bore shoulder guns if any one is using such a rare lump !.

OK the door is open for debate ????. who will fire the first SALVO ?

Well i'm there for the second week in sept with the family. so if its then i'd love to have a play with your big weapons :w00t: . I will leave the pogo stick in the lodgings

I was thinking about the filthy weather months Terry but don't panic if you just come across that field I will give you a go with the 8bore but the trouble is when you get home you will be trading in the pogo stick & looking for a vintage 8bore :good: . ATB Carl

I'm italian, can I come :)

They dont use classy antique & vintage 4 & 8 bores ! they use cheap tacky 5 shot pogo sticks & they are illegal to use on wildfowl in the UK ! but if you are one of the rare exceptions then we might consider you  . Nice Italian cafe here in Kirkwall & I was in there just the other day so I can not be accused of being racist ! :whistling: .

ps I dont care if you are or not just so long as you like the big old wildfowling guns

I could be up for that if it is open to all members, I always planned to get to Orkney and any excuse to get the 8 out.

Mind you, I would have to bring the 10 pogo stick for the rainy days.

8 bores work fine in the rain  , if it comes off its a still a long way off . ATB Pole Star & watch this space

Great looks like we are getting some interest & if this comes off next season the idea is a get together for big bore uses to exchange views & opinions show your guns around & maybe bring along any big bore guns or associated items you wish to sell or exchange & get some shooting in all on the same meet .

Bring along any big bore guns you want to share with other fans fandango & I know some other chaps who will & they have some beautiful & rare guns . Sadly there is always the filthy money word  & there is nothing in this for me except a get together & Orkney is a long way for some to come & we will need to hire a venue for at least one night & then there is the accommodation .

Also it will be a chance to exchange ideas on loads & loading & a mate of mine has a lovely pin fire 8b he uses & if you ask him nicely he will bring along the tools to show us how its done ( psst ! do not mention pogo sticks to him he hates em with a vengeance  ).

Hi Pole Star, when I bought the gun the guy gave me a trade label with it, if I could post pics on here I would but it reads JOHN WILKES est 1830 gun and rifle maker 79 Beak Street London W1.

Hmm ! should be good & with good steel barrels will give many years of service :good: .

Nice one mat bagging your first duck!! I had a double 8 bore a few years ago and like a fool I sold it, I did get me money back but it was worth more!

Yeah let me know about the big bore shoot, might be able to come up, just got a single 4 bore and a nice double English 10 b now.

And like most wildfowlers a couple of pogo sticks in the cabinet

ps it will be a bit like a posh meet for vintage Bentley car owners , so you don't turn up in a Ford Fiesta or else ! & Fourbore is a big bloke with big hands & a bad paddy temper like I have coz we are both part Irish :lol::lol:

All sounds very interesting, I think I would be up for that....Keep me informed,I haven't been out with the 8 yet! Last time down the marsh, Mossies were bloody merciless....A few friends said it was like giving blood without the tea and biscuits

Thanks for the ongoing input & interest Gentlemen & aside from what has been posted here I have had some behind the scenes interest & I think any possible meet would have to be in early November next year so we have lots of time to work at it .

As some one just said to me in a PM it would be a rare opportunity for us antique & vintage big bore users to get together for a shot & meet under the same roof for a pint & a yarn .

Lets work at it . ATB Pole Star :)

Things are looking very good for this chaps even though its still a very long way off & thanks for the PMs & a long call with Fourbore & some of you know other big bore users who will be interested to come along . So if all goes according to plan I would like to think it will be get together for real enthusiasts & perhaps even a mini arms fair because we all have bits & bobs we like to move on , so if you have any antique & vintage big bore or muzzle loading items surplus this will be the chance to sell them to the right minded shooters . It can any thing from powder flasks to empty cases & reloading tools ect so long as its all within the true antique/big bore range .

I expect this thread to go quiet over the spring & summer but I will keep you updated & pm you all as ideas come in .

ps Period costume is not essential & top hats & bowler hats do not stay on very well in the Orkney wind  , they might finish up in Norway so if you do wear one put your name on it !
