landy george
Have a look on Gumtree as well. Personally I'd stick to a 300tdi as a good TD5 is a different story.
neil3728
I would stay away from the TD5, the 300tdi is very simple and will run forever. Mine is an N reg so roughly 18 years old. things have started to go wrong but only things that wear, The alterator and a Uj on the front prop, have been replaced in the last 6 months. Most repairs are easy if you have a decent tool kit and a copy of the Workshop Mannual. My sunrooms don't leak and I have no oil leaks either. A well maintained 300tdi will last forever. Rust is a big problem but you can buy replacement pannels easy enough to buy. In fact you can now get a whole bolt on new front end. Spend around £100-1500 on the car and the rest on tools if needed and you will never look back.
NIGHT SEARCHER
Have a look at 2.8 TD Shoguns LWB or SWB I have been very happy with my 97 R reg flared arch model. It`s got full leather. Big sunroof. Air con. Cruise control. 2XWD. 4XWD. 4XWDL. Diff lock. I give £1500 for it two years ago. I have only spent £400 on it in two years mostly servicing. BrowningDJC
For 2.5k a td5 is the last thing i would buy, if you especially want a disco you will struggle to find a good 300 tdi now. I agree a terrano would be a good option, a friend of mine just sold a 02 plate for well under that and the 2.7 engines are very good. Tidy pajeros and the imported version of the trooper (bighorn) can be had for much less, or a hilux surf.
