Varmint223
Guy's , Can anyone offer advice on this , I may soon need a moderated shotgun ( due to noise complaints) can anyone suggest a 12g moderated shotgun that is reliable and one that won't break the bank. Thanks Tommy
Cranfield
The Hushpower range is all there is available as far as I can see. I have recently been through the comparison exercises at Saddlery and Gunrooms, Westerham (where Hushpowers come from), as I need a moderated shotgun for some locations. I would suggest you consider the 20bore versions, they are much quieter than the 12bore and with 28 or 30gm loads they are capable of doing anything a 12bore can do. I recently purchased the Mossberg pump version in 20bore and enjoyed it, but then had the chance of buying a new Hushpower O/U also in 20bore and did the trade-in. The O/U is slightly quieter than the pump action and more user friendly (shorter, lighter, etc).
sitsinhedges
I would recommend the 20gauge too preferably the O/U but even an old single barrel moderated Pedretti is worth having in your cabinet for noise sensitive areas

Woodbepigeonshooter
If you have a fox problem now is the time with bonfire night approaching to bait to a safe area to shoot. Simples.
bisondan
I purchased the Mossberg 20g about 6 weeks a go now, I've been rabbit shooting 3 times with it and had 16, 12, and 22 on the 3 trips. I did put about 150 cartridges through it at a clay ground before I took it on to the field proper and at first it still made a fairly loud bang. I believe the bafflers need to be coked up a bit so they function properly, I guess it will get even quieter the more I run through there. I'm using Fiocchi HP 30g size 6 through it and they are fairly fast carts and can only imagine it would be even quieter with subs.
sitsinhedges
You'll never effectively silence cartridges that are leaving the barrel at supersonic speeds because you can't avoid the sonic bang. Noise will always be more obvious when shooting against a solid background such as a hedgeline than it would shooting into the air. I find the theory about the tube getting quieter as it cokes up untrue but using the right cartridges will make a very significant difference. stubby
your profile does not say your location, but if your in Essex, don't buy from the gun shop with same name my mossberg hushpower 410 has been back to them twice from new, as it fails to extract fired carts, and they say its user error, here's a short video to show how quite it is, using extra long subsonics, excuse the camera angle, its a go pro on the side of gun, and as it fails to extract, it then chucks the second un fired cart out http://youtu.be/5rLcGG70SQE
