Newbie wanting to pigeon shoot in Kent.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Looking for someone in the Kent area to go pigeon shooting with. I've been clay shooting for about a year now and would like to move on to pigeon shooting. I'm a complete novice in the field but know how to handle a gun, have insurance through BASC but lack experience and permission. I use a Miroku MK70 and generally have a strike rate of about 60-65%. I'm willing to share any costs and buy any equipment necessary to get started. For about a year I use to regularly go shooting with my air rifle out in a field in Essex and really enjoyed being in that type of environment. Air gun has now gone and been replaced with my trusty shogun.

If anyone wants anymore information about me just send me a message.

Thanks for looking.

It must be a very popular forum website as 2 views in less than an hour, it's a Saturday night and the X factor is on!!

Thanks for the warm welcome, can either of you make any suggestions as how to make a start pigeon shooting, weather or not I'd be wasting my time approaching local farmers or would I be better off trying to find a shooting buddy.

It was so frustrating today, I was running late to take my son for a swimming lesson and passed a local farm. Just entering the farm lane was a group of shooters heading off with their dogs on to the land. I really wanted to stop and approach the group for a chat, but have you seen the price of swimming lessons these days!!

There is a local shoot I believe that are always looking for beaters, I'm not too sure what to expect when beating and what sort of commitment the shoot would expect from me. It's all a but of an unknown and wouldn't want to cock anything up for the shooters.

hello mate

its not easy getting permissions but keep asking farmers when you see many pigeons on fields and one will welcome you on to his land

I now have about 1000 acres on which to shoot over 3 or 4 different farms, once you get one others do follow as most farmers know each other and it helps when you say you shoot for one of them

good luck

I really appreciate all the advice, it looks like I'll have to put in some leg work and start by door knocking. Let's see where that gets me. I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

I'm in the Medway area of kent and currently shoot clays at JJ's.

Thanks all.

The field in Essex is air guns only but it's very good as there is a 50 yard indoor range to use outdoor animal targets and acres of land to wander over. It's £10 for the day. The farmer is a keen air gunner himself.

SEshooter, maybe up for that next weekend if you fancy it. I'll need to check with the boss to make sure we haven't any plans.

Hey, I'm from gravesend and I got some pigeon shooting though family friend and then they put me onto the farmer next to them.

But I go beating on the holborugh estate shoot at upper halling. Good bunch of beaters and a good game keeper. You can see their website and contact them for some beating they shoot most Saturdays and some Wednesdays.

Holborough estate is the one I've looking at on the web. I found it on the BASC website, maybe I'll join you on one of the meets. I'll be up for some clays next Sunday morning at JJ's. I'll do birds only as I'm not quite competition material yet. Unless there is anywhere else you have in mind as I'd like to try somewhere else.

Been out door knocking today with SEshooter. No luck, but the farmers we spoke to were quite friendly. I'm not going to give up but may have to resort to going on a couple of paid pigeon shoots just to get a bit of experience.

Has anyone been on any paid shoots is the kent area? If so where are they?

Going to JJ's tomorrow to let out some frustration on some clays!!
