njc110381
Well after a lot of thought, and input from you chaps (especially markbivvy, cheers buddy ) I'm going to apply for my FAC and hopefully be passed for a .17hmr. I've spent most of the last couple of days reading up on the subject and at first I liked the sound of a stainless Savage. After reading up on them a bit, and finding several negative comments regarding this rifle, I'm now looking at a CZ. They make my Air Arms S200, which is a very good gun for the price, so I think I may go for the model 452 with a 16" screwcut barrel. What do you think of them, or can you recommend another bolt action which you have had good reliable service from and doesn't cost a fortune? Any information, positive or not, will be much appreciated.

njc110381
Folding? I've assumed that means money-no more than £500 inc scope and mod

njc110381
I like new really, but if a good used one turned up then I'd have it. I don't travel for guns, and it's rare to find a specific used one locally.
markbivvy
i tend to lean towards the cz,s myself.as they kill things the same as other guns that cost a bit more.

njc110381
I'm going to have to upgrade the scope later I think. I know that it pays to have a good one, but it's better to shoot at short range for a bit than not shoot at all. My simmons on my S200 is good for 100m+, I'll borrow it for a few months and put a cheap one on the air rifle

njc110381
You can't fire a 12g or hmr in a barn, or in the back garden. I'll always have some time for the air rifle, horses for courses and all that

jcbruno
i have a CZ ,Anchutz and a Sako they are all great guns but for the money CZ shoots juast as good though the fit and finish may not be as nice.
njc110381
That's the answer I was hoping for, thanks. For what I'm spending, I'm not expecting to get anything pretty. Thick varnish on the stock, and half assed blueing is ok. It has to shoot reasonably well though. I can stare at my beretta if I want something pretty to look at

beatingisbest
i have used a CZ .17hmr, it was very good, grouped very well, even with my shooting
njc110381
I guess you just take it off of the gun, remove the trigger guard and butt pad if there is one, and bung some stripper on it. Give it a sand and oil it? Still harder than leaving it looking plain though
markbivvy
Give it a sand wire wool for me, fine, very fine.
njc110381
I see where you're coming from. If you can make a gun look so much better for little effort, it's got to be worth a go. I'll see how it looks as standard, I'm not that fussy really as long as it works
