kent
+1 for 17 though i have all three 22lr .22 fac air and HMR 17 if you dropped the air fac for a standard 12ftp then you could cover all your options Yep, also drop the HMR for a small centre fire and you could cover still more. Few will keep a HMR long with something like a .17or .22 hornet, Bee or Fireball in the safe

Colster
If I could only have one it would be .22LR, however in your scenario having already got FAC Air I would go HMR. As said above the .22LR sits nicely between the 2 and would be worth having but if your FEO won't allow it, then HMR gives you a lot of legs above the FAC Air. Yes they are more expensive to feed but I wouldn't worry about the noise. The crack is sharp and tends to echo a bit so bunnies can't work out where it came from but they make a lot less noise on impact being a frangible round than a .22 sub. Hit a bunny with an LR sub and his mates might not hear the gun go off but they will hear the thump of the bullet (particularly on body shots). A very good answer to your original question
steve_b_wales
Tell your FEO that you want a .22LR purely for night vision. I have two .22LR's, one .17HMR and a FAC air rifle.
