sitsinhedges
Well the harvest is well and truly over around here but I'm fortunate to have access too a good sized wood that isn't used for game shooting anymore. I can only really shoot it on a Saturday now due to the working week, dark nights and a farmer who doesn't like the disturbance of shooting on a Sunday. Unfortunately this particular Saturday afternoon saw me sitting in A&E with something stuck in my eye, but having recovered I went and saw the farmer and explained my plight and he allowed me to have a go today instead. I said I would take my Husher to cut down any disturbance and though he said not to worry I still did. Got there at about 2pm and the first shot at a bird thru a thick canopy seemed as loud as a normal gun as the sound bounced back at me from close range but it killed the bird dead in the air and put up quite a few hundred into the air from the trees they were feeding under. Subsequent shots were much quieter. Shooting was difficult with so many leaves still on the trees giving a poor view and little time to prepare for birds that always seemed to come from a direction other than the one I was looking at. Nevertheless luck was with me today and I pulled of some great shots that I really didn't expect as I pulled the trigger. The subsonic 30grams of 5 shot always seems to punch above its weight. The shooting died off at around 3.30pm, well before dark and I took the pic at around 4.30. All the birds I shot contained acorns and a few specks of rape so maybe they're getting an easy meal and don't have to feed right until dark. Just glad I got to do a bit this weekend. turbo33
That's a big load for the 20 then Who needs a 12 Edited November 3, 2013 by turbo33
sitsinhedges
That's a big load for the 20 then Who needs a 12 The larger pellets help account for the reduced speeds and then the shot weight helps to account for the otherwise low number of pellets in the pattern. Seems about optimal for the gun and certainly seems to work. Kills really well

Underdog
Good for you. I can vouch for sub-sonic loads too. Been using them for years now....out of muzzleloaders see! And they don't smash stuff to bits too. U.
