Alexbb Posted November 5, 2013 Report Share Posted November 5, 2013 With the weight and unwieldy nature of carting everything to an appropriate position in my permissions I was thinking about getting an old fashioned shooting stick as if things are going well you never really have a chance to sit back and relax. They are useful pieces of kit, but not really designed to sit on for very long periods at a time. Unless you have an unusually small backside, they become uncomfortable very quickly. If you look at the old pictures of game shoots, you will see the guns tend to lean on them, rather than sit down on them. UKSW have a large seat area version, which is excellent, but slightly heavier than a normal shooting stick, that might be worth a look for you. EMcC Posted November 6, 2013 Report Share Posted November 6, 2013 I use one all the time but have to agree it is more a 'lean on' rather than sit on seat and has been known to fall over whenever I stand up. It is ideal when sat on and leaning your back against a tree. I have tried several of the adjustable ones but the adjustable bit becomes a bit loose over time and wobbles a bit, which can be a bit frightening when sat concentrating, so now have a standard height one with the wider leather seat and have had the shank cut and threaded so that I can take it apart to fit in my suitcase when travelling abroad for my driven boar shoots. Bobba Posted November 7, 2013 Report Share Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) I had a conventional one and now have the large seat version identified by Cranfield from UKSW. The problems with both is (a) they sink into muddy ground (b) because they are based on a single support pole then if you sit on them awkwardly you can overbalance and end up on the ground!!
