i have always used springers and recently (last week) upgraded to my Daystate PCP and I am totally over the moon. It is so much more accurate than the springer (not saying that it wasn't accurate, just not 'as' accurate as the PCP). And also it is so much more quiet (i can spit louder than it)!!

The only downside so far is the expense and I think it will probably get annoying wen i'm out in the field and I have to re-charge it every 70-80 shots. . . . . .

I started off with springers, as I'm sure a lot of people did 15 years ago. PCPs were well out of my budget at the time. I had quite a few before buying my first pre charged gun. One thing I must add is that my last "springer" had a Theoben gas ram, and was far better than any other spring gun I've had. Now I shoot an Air Arms S200, and really like it. It's quiet, not hard to cock, and if you need more than 80 shots in one hunting session, you're doing well! The accuracy is spot on, although my springers were pretty good too - I haven't extended my hunting range with the pre charged. If I was to go back to a springer, I would have to buy something like a HW90, or a theoben. Gas strut guns are much smoother to shoot in my experience. I'd quite happily have one instead of my pre charged for hunting, although the multi shot capacity and quietness of the pre charged guns is handy if you get a group of rabbits to shoot. :good:

How many times do you take 70-80 shots on a hunting trip? :good:

I believe there is a place for both types and to be a competant shot you need to practice on both types of rifle. This will keep your skill base upto scratch. However I only have a pcp now but would happily take a springer out again. Hopefully soon I will be able to get back on a springer.

I like to use one of each. My PCP is .22 at about 10.5ftlbs and the Springer is at about 11.7Ftlbs in .177, so its a nice balance lol. I can shoot straight with both and tend to alternate between the two on hunting trips....Im happy with both :good: . Only thing is you do miss the quick multishot on the springer, especially when three or so pigeons land at once which usually happens when I've got the single shot rifle out!!! lol

That'll be one hefty springer if it is designed to move a pellet of that size. :good:

I suppose its all down to your requirements. I'm pretty sure that you won't find it hard trying to find somone to swap their springer for your PCP. Mind you, it depends what make and model PCP it is. :good:

I love my lightning. However i've used a number of pcp models and i'd have to say i'd def swap it for some models.... however there are some pcp's out there which i'd rather use as a club than shoot with! (then again i could also say that about a load of springers as wel "cough SMK cough" ) :good:

I've an old springer, a Webley Vulcan, which I've had for just over 30 years. My father bought it for me when I was 14.

The woodwork was recently stripped of the old varnish and finished with Caseys woodstain and TruOil. The gun blue on it has hardly a mark.

I recently updated the scope from an old Relum 4x20 to a Hawke 4x32 - in comparison the old scope looked like I was looking through fog. I am also considering a Theoben gas ram conversion.

noooooooo!!!!!!dont do it ya only need 1 gun and youve allready got it i started from springers and progressed onto pcp i wouldnt go back for the world .ya cant beat the accuracy and quiteness of pcp.ya never use 60-80 shots when hunting and its more hassle cocking a springer to put a pellet in everytime than pulling a boltback on a pcp id sooner charge a pcp than do that everytime when lying in a prone posision.

im down to 3 guns from 63. ive got 2 daystates and a hw80. all tuned a fettled by myself. i love using the springer because i get a reaction when i pull the trigger. my pcp's are dead and clinically accurate but a pocket full of pellets and my 80 and im away all day.

If you're set on an underlever gun then you can't get much better than those two. If you could go for a break barrel, the theobens are a completely new experience. So smooth to use you'll never go back

EDIT- Just thought of the Theoben SLR. That's a multi shot underlever, a bit like the old BSA Goldstar. May be a bit away from what you're looking for, but thought I'd mention it
