Lord Geordie
Hire a compressor and make a good job of it I wouldn't roller a car personally

la bala
if it is matt, its very forgiving, it doesnt show imperfections like a gloss. i sprayed mine, once masked, its quicker. good luck with your project.

Thelongwayup
Hire a compressor and make a good job of it I wouldn't roller a car personally Seconded. Don't brush it...spray it. Brushed cars look Terrible IMO. For the sake of a few quid more it would be quicker and look far better.
chrispti
Take your time masking up, and buy a load of rollers, as when they get soggy they start to slide instead of roll, which makes it look streaky .... http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/130426-painted-the-jimny/?hl=%2Bpainted+%2Bthe+%2Bjimny Edited November 18, 2013 by chrispti

chrispti
Chrispti Its you motor mate that planted the seed, hope it turns out like yours did. What did you do the wheels with?? Mine are just steel rims was going to wire brush down and hammerite mat black. I just rubbed the wheeles down, gave them a good wash/de-grease. Masked off the tyres and sprayed 2-3 coats of plasti-coat Matt black spray paint. http://www.screwfix.com/p/plasti-kote-super-multipurpose-spray-paint-matt-black-400ml/33732 The paint is still going strong, and easy to touch up if you scratch them. chrispti
I also used the spray paint in the door sills, inner frame and any other hard to reach areas. Also used it on the rear windows, prior to rollering them.

Davyo
Car is rubbed down and paint on order hopefully here before Friday.I was hoping to put the first coat on an Saturday morning and then leave in the garage(will be painting in the garage). Then the second coat on Sunday morning, hopefully taking the car out of garage on Monday morning.I have read reviews advising not to paint in the winter so now confused and starting to have doubts.Would I be better off leaving it till spring? The garage is dry, free of dust and draughts but no heating. Has anybody roller painted before in cold weather? bigben
Just get some heat in there and it should be fine but you will need it warm before you start and to leave it on for a good few hours after.

castletyne
I would hire a little infared heater will speed up the drying time Plus no fan so won't bow dust onto the motor

Davyo
chrispti, how long did it take your paint to go hard? This is my main concern, really happy with the cover though. I am not going to take it out of the garage till Monday providing it hardens enough. Edited November 23, 2013 by Davyo
