12boreblue
I went on the Caterham Clay Shoot website today only to read that it has now stopped trading due to the sale of the land. What a shame, a really good shoot that I certainly enjoyed.
-Mongrel-
Well that solves that particular little conundrum for me.
jpigeon3
Seems a bit strange how quick it was sold, what with the fire. The footfall has been getting fewer over the last few months though. Hope they honour any outstanding prize money
Ugb25
Maybe that's why they couldn't be bothered to make good use of the ground and set some decent targets
Mungler
The closure of any clay ground is a bad thing. It's not like replacement clay grounds are springing up all over the place
Dunkield
Was once a great clay shoot, that the other one down the A22 that I can never remember the name of. I would have thought that land with planning permission is worth a whole arm and a leg
12boreblue
The other shoot on the A22 was the Vineyard run by Horne Clays, who run Gatton Bottom and Court Farm in Surrey. Not sure why it was closed I think it was the landowner decided they no longer wanted shooting. I'm sure Caterham will honour any outstanding prizemoney, also the sale was pending when it was vandalised, one would suppose that they checked with the prospective buyers, what their intentions were, before repairing the damage. Could also be that the new owners intend to set up their own shoot. Why is it on this forum that so many see a conspiracy behind every bush? I have used Caterham for many years, and never ever had a problem, or an issue with either the set up or managment. If it was good enough for the likes of Digweed, Faulds etc then it was good enough for me. I shall miss the shoot, and all Clay shooters in the area now have one less place to practice their sport....and that is not ggod for the sport as a whole. Dunkield
The one I am talking about (long time ago I should add) wasn't a Horne shoot it was seen as the sister shoot to Caterham. Similar layout with lots of long birds, they used platforms with clays coming from underneath you quite s bit. Had some good shoots at both, but stopped all that driving to clay grounds the day I handed my fuel card back
GingerCat
Shame it's closed but your almost spoilt for choice in that area, must be 5 inside 20 mins drive from caterham and they are all quite good. My fav is headley on a Saturday as they have a free bbq as well and a friendly shoot
