Rst1990
What do you guys clean your side plates up with? I was thinking autosolve but that seems to be a bit gritty. Would a impregnated jewellery cleaning cloth be better? Thanks
Cambsman
How have your side plates been treated in manufacture?

Cambsman
Are they blued or colour hardened? I am no expert but my understanding is that you just need to remove the oils, from your skin/hands as over time they can attack the finish. Personally I just polish with a clean soft cloth to remove all fingerprints and residue etc etc. I would never use any chemicals etc on my guns metalwork. Auto glym metal polish Tried this out on a friends o/u on the side plates trigger etc it came out like new, removed all tarnish and left a invisible film to protect it from future wear, perfect. LPJA
I have heard you can use toothpaste as a light abrasive paste to brighten up side plates and remove tarnish.

norfolk dumpling
Interesting - I've noticed in good light metalwork on my Berretta has a little discolouration near woodwork which I suspect is the oil (with alcanet??) I treat stock with. Metal is the slightly yellowish standard SP finish so only noticed recently. Will give attention (as above?) at end of season.
