gunners
This has hit our local paper, what a story Owner's amazement as he's reunited with his Labrador dog SIX days after it vanished in flood waters at WelneyWritten byJORDAN DAY Bradley Davis with Mey A dog owner has been reunited with his beloved pet - almost a week after she went missing in flood water. Bradley Davis, pictured, feared he would never see his 4-year-old Labrador, Mey, again. But thanks to mammoth community spirit, an around-the-clock search party - and possibly the power of Mey’s nose - he and his trained gundog are now side-by-side again. It was at around 6am on New Year’s Eve that yellow Labrador Mey vanished. Bradley, who lives in Guildford, Surrey, was staying at the Lamb and Flag public house in Welney when she ran into flood water on the notorious A1101 Welney Wash Road. Within moments, Mey had vanished. Despite being a strong swimmer, the beloved hound was not above water and was nowhere to be seen. It wasn’t until Sunday - a whopping six days later - that Mey was found by some wildfowlers - bizarrely almost exactly where she went missing. Bradley said: “It’s all extremely confusing but we’ve got her back and that’s the main thing. “I never thought I’d see her again that’s for sure. “She literally vanished. She ran into the flood water and was nowhere to be seen. “She’s a gundog so she’s used to water and I thought she’d just swim back but she didn’t. “We searched high and low for her and before we knew it Mey was at the centre of what was a major search operation. “Myself, fellow wildfowlers, dog wardens, dog walkers, RSPB wardens and even the police all helped out with search but still we couldn’t find her or even hear her.” Reluctantly, Bradley had to leave the Lamb and Flag at the weekend to return to Guildford for work. He said: “It was really tough. “Anybody who loves their dog knows how much they mean to you so leaving there not knowing what had happened to her was awful. “I then received a phone call on the Sunday to say that she had been found. “Some wildfowlers had found her clinging to a log in the water almost exactly where she had gone missing. “She was howling loudly which is what got their attention. “They scooped her up, called me and I travelled back to Welney that day to get her. “None of us know what exactly happened to Mey that day. “I don’t know whether she was picked up by someone accidentally, or even purposely, and that they then put her back where they found her after realising how many people were involved in the search. “Or she could have swam a long way away onto dry land and then eventually picked up my scent bringing her back to the spot. “I don’t suppose we ever will know what happened to her but all that matters is that we’ve got her back. “She was very weak when I collected her and you can tell she’s been through a bit of an ordeal but she’s coming round and settling back in fine. “I’d like to thank each and every person who went out of their way to help us find Mey. “The help and support we received was amazing and we cannot thank everyone enough.” Read more: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/News/Dog-reunited-with-owner-six-days-after-vanishing-in-flood-waters-20140108060000.htm#ixzz2ppIBORGs

wj939
Made my day reading this. Having lost dogs temporarily in the past typically it's been people picking up the hounds thinking they are lost when in reality they were probably following the scent back. Nothing worse than going home without one of your buddies Edited January 9, 2014 by wj939
