ernyha
Ratcatcher, my mate had a Remmy 1100 from new in the seventies and only traded it in a few months ago and it served him very well. I used it a couple of times and found it heavy compared to the Beretta auto,s. Depending on how much money you intend spending but personally i would be looking at the Beretta from the 302,303,304,390 and the current 391 range. They usually come with multi-chokes and have a great reputation for reliability. I am biassed of course as i have been shooting them for years and i am sure others will give their verdicts on other makes.
JONO
Aren't they a ****** to clean tho'?
ernyha
Aren't they a ****** to clean tho'? :< Can,t argue with that JONO that is why i have mentioned several times in the past that when i think i am going to have a quiet day, especially at this time of year, i take my o/u which is a lot quicker to clean. Having said that, at stubble time when the shooting can get hectic, i prefer the 391 for ease of loading and the extra shot. If i wasn,t fortunate enough to have the choice of both though, for pigeon shooting and general rough shooting , i would choose a semi-auto every time. Cranfield
I owned a Remington 1100 many years ago, it was fitted with a Cutts compensator. Whilst it was a nice gun to shoot, it was heavy and this spoilt a long day of hard shooting. I sold it and bought a Berretta 303 semi auto, the difference was very noticeable. The cleaning of Beretta semi autos, is something I have never had a problem with. I don,t find them more of a nuisance than any other semi auto. Cleaning any gun can be a "pain". I have used a Rem 11-87 before, seemed like a nice gun......but looks a bit dated now All the best Buzz

Hammergun
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need a FAC for a 3-shot semi?
Cranfield
My understanding is, that you do not need a FAC for a 3 shot, semi automatic shotgun. The 3 shots being, one in the breech and 2 in the magazine.
The Sniper
Cranfield, Agreed.
Elma Fud
Anything more than a three shot requires a FAC. (one in the breech, two in the mag.) I also believe ( I may be wrong ) that the FAC will have conditions attached. i.e. Named land etc Therefore you will not be able to take your FAC shotgun anywhere you would wish unless the ground has been cleared by the Chief of Police to shoot on.
