delburt0
In the last 13 yrs I have paid private once for a tooth pulling as everytime I have gone to the dentist even from been a kid something goes wrong and it's never in my favour. My wife talked me into going to her and the kids dentist over Christmas as I had toothache from a loose tooth, I went for a consultation at Christmas £20.00 all went well. I went again last week for the tooth pulling and a checkup £50.00 all went well. Been today for the scale and polish. After the 1st couple of teeth all was going well then ~ His hand got caught and cut on the cleaning machine putting blood all over the place.(5mins to find a plaster). Then low and behold the compressor packed in half way through. Moved rooms after 20mins and restarted. Suction pipe in that room didn't work so drooled all over and had to keep spitting in sink. Anaesthetic started wearing off so injected me again on pulling out the syringe his thumb must have still have been on the trigger squirting up my nose. Needless to say my face feels like I have had Botox ,and my teeth are starting to hurt, But he wants me to go again on the 20th to do it all again then 3 months after this. If you where wondering why I stopped going to the dentist in the 1st place it was because my last dentist got charged with manslaughter for unfortunately giving a young boy too much anaesthetic who later passed away god bless him... Rant over hope everyone has a nice weekend Edited January 10, 2014 by delburt0

neil3728
Have not been to the dentist in 12 years, Hate them. Have said I will only go if I am in a lot of pain. I think its the fact you have no idea what they are doing can't see anything and are still awake. That and one dentist once pulled too many teeth when I was been fit for a brace, many years ago,
Chris Bb
If they ain't broke don't fix them. Having said that, I've one or two loose at the moment, I may have to go soon to get them pulled and two more plastic ones glued to the plates. felly100
You have probably got periodontal pockets. I would recommend you keep going every 3 months like the dentist said otherwise you will suffer sufficient bone loss to make your teeth loosen and they will ultimately fall out. I have it and having under your gums scraped is the way forward, plus the use of interdental brushes.

felly100
That's what I mean. It's when plaque gets below the gum line. Your teeth can be great but they will still fall out if the bone erodes.

Will it go away once they are cleaned by thomas the mad polish dentist and I start the brushing twice a day religiously mouthwash and teepee sticks.. felly100
It'll never go away you will have to manage it with the method you mentioned. Expect your gums to recede. Stay motivated and if you smoke, stop. Press down with the tepees and brush right down to the gum line. Make sure you go to the hygienist every 3 months. Good luck with it. bruno22rf
Find another Dentist-there is absolutely no reason to be in pain while you are in the chair-my Dentist even numbs the gum before injections.
Gunnerbob
You have my sympathy delburt0, I have a deep rooted fear of dentists ever since, as a kid, my dentist used a treadle powered drill on an already aching tooth...no injection... Takes all my courage to get into the waiting room even today...
Pheasant Feeder
I'm currently going through a series of root canal and crown treatments. I tend to get in the chair and go into shutdown mode. I close my eyes open my mouth, and just shutdown.
Liamey
I feel your pain. Having said that I found a great dentist this past year who has been working on my teeth after toothache struck with a vengeance. It was only yesterday after numerous extractions and other work that I got a new clean bill of health. My advice would be to shop around and go off recommendations as to any future dental work. Having said that only you will know if your dentist deserves the benefit of the doubt as accidents unfortunately do happen. The next time I head back will be for a cleaning which will be a nice break from the needle in the gum. At the end of the day I guess we are fortunate to live in a place where we have dentists as I can't imagine the pain someone from a poor country with little to no healthcare would endure! Kes
I am another hwo hated dentists as a child/teenager and paid the price later. I smoked and that causes bone loss and loosens teeth. My personal savior is a dentist in the local town. She is a lovely, kind and considerate person and we talk about chickens and her veg garden, shooting etc and whilst its not a walk in the park for me, she does everything she can to make it bearable - added to which she is good looking and a blonde. I used to have vallium just to get in the chair - now that was wierd but no hassle at all.
shootnfish
Wish i could shut down when i go to the dentist i sweat like a pig when i get in that chair and by the time i get out of it my arms and hands ache where i have been gripping the arm rests so hard. I try to go as little as i can and only go if im in pain , stupid i know coz if i went for regular check ups there probably would be no pain. If you have an abscess on your gum is it just a course of antibiotics they give you? Edited January 10, 2014 by shootnfish

I have just been through this and I would recommend shopping around for prices.
shootnfish
Its above a tooth that i had a crown fitted to about 10 months ago think i had the nerve taken out of this tooth years ago if that is what root canal treatment is. Was going to have this tooth out because it broke but bottled it and had crown fitted instead. Maybe should of just had it out now.

felly100
No worries mate. The only pain I felt was coughing up about £600 for the root canal work and the crown.
