Boat Fishing Trip

This is just a tentative enquiry as I have tried to organise these before at work and the initial rush of willing participants soon dwindled away with every excuse under the sun as the day grew near to the point where the trip was no longer viable.

The boat in question is the Predator from Grimsby. He has a website....google him. Also on FB as Charter Boat Predator.

He runs throughout the year and is currently Cod and Whiting bashing in the Humber.

I went on Tuesday and brought home 14 very nice sized whiting but unfortunately for me missed out on the Cod.

There were however 4 over the 10lb mark and others from 6lb upwards.....these were taken by novices...grrr.....who just used basic gear and squid as bait whereas clever sod me with all my gear and fancy bait kept hitting whiting after whiting.....serves me right for tipping off with lug and razorfish.

Cost was £60 which included all bait....he has gear for novices as well, he is a good skipper and very helpful.

Boat is comfortable and he provides Tea and Coffee.........you have to bring your own food though.....

Right....thats the background now to gauge what the interest level is.

He will continue in the Humber for the next 6 weeks or so before moving down to Skegness area for Skate, Dogs, Tope and Bass which lasts a couple of months.

If the weather is good he will run offshore before concentrating in the summer months offshore wrecking....he also does sharking out at the Silver Pits.

Any expressions of interest and what your preferences would be....weekend....midweek etc so I can see what can be arranged.

He likes to run with 8 but will take a booking for 6 and advertise the extra places...if not filled he will go with the 6.

Over to you. :good:

He generally posts dates for odd places but I was waiting to see the level of interest before asking him for a full day.

He posts places at short notice too....this is what he has at the minute,

Sat 18th/Thurs 23rd/Sat 25th/Sun 26th/Mon 27th Jan & Sun 09th Feb

Too soon to get anything sorted I think but it gives an idea.

If there is enough interest I don't see why we can't run 2...one for midweek and another weekend although he did say midweekers are generally more available.

Just for future reference as my shoulder is still not sorted yet, a few questions please as I do fancy having a go at some stage.

What time do you meet?

How long is the day/fishing trip?

Is there plenty of parking nearby?

Due to the copious amounts of coffee and tea what happens when you want to GO?

What would be the best clothing?

Sorry but I have never been before

Regards

Generally sail at around the 8am mark.

Trips are generally 8 hours but he will stay out longer if you hit good fishing at going home time..no extra charge.

Loads of parking as we sail from Grimsby Docks and there is loads of empty space around the Marina.

We 'go' in the time honoured tradition of all older Grimsby Trawlers.......in a bucket....then feed the fish with the contents......there is the luxury of popping around the front of the wheelhouse so no-one sees you.

There is a small cubicle which ladies can use should they come along.

Clothing....lots of layers topped off with a waterproof outfit...you can always take stuff off if too hot...not so easy the other way around. I use a one piece floatation suit personally but thats because I play on boats a lot.

Novices are well catered for as all gesr is provided in the price and he will set you up according to the type of fishing we are doing. He will also unhook the fish for the squeamish and fillet them for you too if required at going home time.

And Fenboy....yes, we also had some double figure Cod when out on Tuesday.

Hope that helps.....getting some interest now so hopefully soon be able to cobble something together.

Bit of a scratching day, the weather forecast was totally wrong and we got clobbered by a South Easterly straight up the river.....wind against tide.

Easterlies are not the best winds for fishing.

I got numerous whiting again...biggest one an impressive 2 3/4lb with only the one cod though.

Did have some fun at slack water though when I switched gear and targeted the Dabs.....got some lovely ones.....skinned and headed and on the plate for tea. Very tasty and under rated fish is the humble Dab.

Working out some dates with him although to be fair he is pretty fully booked for the next month or so although he always gets drop outs.

He reckons from a full booking of eight he always gets a couple of cancellations about a week before and offers those places.

Will keep all posted as I get to know more definitely.
