Proudly
But not one killed..... Thousands of birds on my permission, we normally put decoys out but just had an owl decoy plus a single crow decoy due to mate not packing the rest. Our natural hide in the top field has taken a battering & I think we need to build a couple more on the bottom fields as there was hundreds there today & theres only a thin hedge bordering this field. Had a few long shots but they kept out of range & flitted back & forth. The owl decoy never worked at all, it seems you need a big pattern of decoys to get the crows in. Will this be due to the high numbers of crows in the area?
steve_b_wales
In my experience, the more decoys that you can put out, the better. You can get away with a couple of decoys, and then add to the pattern with the shot birds, but the more that are out at first, the better the chance of other bird's seeing them. I have upwards of 60 Crow decoys, but don't use them all at once. Usually, 20 will work, and then I add the dead ones. If you have'nt got a Primos Power Crow caller, then I would highly recommend getting one and learning how to use it properly. I too, have never had any luck with Owl decoys. I have tried the little owl and the European large one to no avail.

Proudly
Thanks Steve. Its infuriating not being able to put a dent in them especially when theres more now than I've seen this past year.

ollie
I only have 6 crow decoys; this is normally enough to get me started and then I continue adding shot crows to the pattern.

It was my first go and I was amazed at the crows reactions. I had a thread going in the guns & equipment section last week that might be of use. Can't wait to give it another go. Might get out tomorrow.
