hello folks, some advice please. Should I go through the breaking in process, or is it a waste of time for a

17hmr? Has anyone had any negative effects from not 'breaking it in', in a carefull, almost witchcraft-like ritual?

You categorically will not make a gun shoot worse or become harder to clean from proper run in. On the other hand there is also no sure way of categorically proving a gun shoots better after a one shot clean type break in. I think it only does them good and is time well spent if you are not the type who keeps swapping and changing, it is but a small chore
