gibspoon
hello folks, some advice please. Should I go through the breaking in process, or is it a waste of time for a 17hmr? Has anyone had any negative effects from not 'breaking it in', in a carefull, almost witchcraft-like ritual?

foxbuster
I didn't break mine in, I cleaned the barrel before shooting it the first time from new and then every couple hundred rounds or if accuracy drops off. I'm sure there'll be lots of people who disagree with this but hey-works for me:-)
Paddy Galore!
i'm a convert for the dirty barrel brigade, it gets cleaned after maybe a box of ammo which lasts about a month.

You categorically will not make a gun shoot worse or become harder to clean from proper run in. On the other hand there is also no sure way of categorically proving a gun shoots better after a one shot clean type break in. I think it only does them good and is time well spent if you are not the type who keeps swapping and changing, it is but a small chore
