Telegraph handgun poll

But if handguns were re- introduced then they also would no longer be on the banned/restricted list! But they would still have to be stored in clubs? Why?

Why are no other 'target shooting only' conditioned firearms kept in clubs?

S1 shotguns are used for Practical comps, the fact you don't see their 'point' is no reason to dismiss their use or ownership as valid.

No they won't because they will not be reintroduced so the question will never arise.

I personally think the government got it wrong BUT,,,the problem is, it seems to me they have a problem with handguns,,

scully,,,,what was the reason given by the government to put these handguns on the banned list and yet leave other handguns off ???

I am asking because I don't know and thought you might ???

A bit disappointed in that response really , but not totally surprised. You're getting quite good at 'opting out' when the going gets a little awkward for you, and then 'opting back in' when you think a reasonable amount of time has elapsed so you can evade any response to awkward questions asked.

You accused someone of bullying by the use of cut and paste, (the post of which now appears to have been removed for some reason, unless I've missed it,but there still remains a reference to it in anothers quote) but then rather than face up to the author you opted out by declaring the topic 'boring' and stated it was 'time to move on'. Then when it suited you 'opted back in' but as you can't answer my question you 'opt back out' by declaring the question moot!

Ah well, here is the reason most firearms owners dislike handguns and those who like handguns.

The reason most firearms owners who have no interest in handguns think they should be kept in clubs is that they themselves, while not necessarily afraid of handguns, are very afraid of the type of person the associated glamour of handguns attracts, and therefore regard handguns and those who use them as a threat to their own particular shooting discipline. If they were kept in clubs then the risk to their own type of shooting would be greatly diminished.

Not many will admit to this as it would identify them as being hypocritical. 'Owning guns is ok so long as they are guns I approve of ' !

I find it rather strange really. The British Gentleman may be a dying breed but he legally carried a handgun ( and possibly a sword-stick, also now highly illeagal!) long before the iconic pump action shotgun made an appearance. The former is gone and their owners ridiculed, but the latter is very popular and much more devastating! How times change.

End of thread?

You may as well ask why they are still legal to own in other parts of the UK. The answer is simple.

Not only other parts but reasons other than "target shooting" the police and military still have them.... Yet as a uk citizen you cannot go to a police or military range and fire them IIRC. Deer stalkers and knackerman can have them for despatch. But not shooting at bits of paper.

sorry but i have never posted any sentence containing the word bully.i know the post you refer to but it was not one of mine again sorry to disappoint.i put the post on saying it was getting boring now that is true but never bully.i have no interest in handguns that much is true but im also have no interest in rifle shooting or long barrel pistol shooting however i respect those who wish to use them and their right to follow their sport.i have at no time ever said anyone should not be able to use a handgun.i do not think the word glamour should be used in the same sentence as handguns they are all made for one purpose and glamour has nothing to do with it.for fear of being repetitive all that was said at the start was they could be stored at a club if that would see the return of the sport.but there you are picking a argument with anyone over it.its not real it aint happening.out of the almost 3/4 of a million shooters in this country how many actually voted on the poll.

edited because the post you refer to is post 180.

scully I take it you don't know the answer then,,

your post has not answered my question, I honestly do not know and as you seem to know so much regarding the handguns I just thought I would ask you the question,,

I seem to recall asking you a question that you failed to answer Evo. Namely why you thought handguns should be kept in clubs.

The answer to your question is Politics. Nothing more, nothing less.Simple.

sorry I thought I answered your question,, my apologies,,

the reason I said or should I say agreed that handguns could be kept at clubs was because some people would be better to do this if it meant getting the full use of the guns back, it would be a foot in the door and at least then they could carry on with their sport, but in my eyes too much FEAR has been put in the publics eyes regarding guns and not just handguns,

lets be honest it is far easier to hide a handgun in a garment of clothing than it is a rifle and this is why I think they have taken the handguns out of circulation, but what I cant understand is , I thought it was all handguns but I have now been led to believe that it is only certain types,,why is this,

I also don't think it was just politics that the handguns where banned because if it was we certainly would not have any now, there is more to this than meets the eye, its just a shame we have not got ONE organisation with the backbone to fight the cause just like the yanks have
