Shot dripper information

Recommended Posts

It would be interesting to see the results of this being pattern plated just to see how much of the softer lead clumps together and if it's really a problem for for cheap pigeon carts?

Ill send you a handful and you can test it (if you reload). Though, I've cut open a 7 1/2 and compared the size and mine seem massive!!! Id say size 5 maybe I didn't have the dripper tipped up enough? Edited by FatherandSon

Thanks for the offer but I don't reload, I have often thought about as I have a continuing supply of scrap lead that generally gets weighed in but the hardening process has always put me off, it just seems a pain in the rear as well as an extra cost I don't want. If plenty of graphite sorts it well enough perhaps I'll give it a go, surely soft shot is not all bad?

Well I tried to squeeze some factory stuff in a vice and I hardly flattened it, then I squeezed my stuff in a vice and I couldnt notice the difference!!

Sorry this is no where ne'er a comparison if I put factory shot in a vice I can easily flatten it until lit looks like flat discs, you won't be putting 3 tons per sq inch on it like when it shot.

Please remember if the factory could save money by not hardening the shot they would it would save them millions each year

It's a good effort for the first time but blow up the pic it's all shapes but round when you add Linotype it helps with the cooling process and makes the shot rounder.

Also if you run the pan hotter this will make smaller shot a cold pan will make larger shot that's why electric is best as it's more controllable copper slip on the ramp also helps

I don't think the pan was tipped up enough. I couldn't tip it any more as it wasn't fixed to my burner and I was worried it would slide of into the coolant!!! I tested the temp and it was running at around 380°C which I thought was already to hot? Tumbling the shot for 20 mins will help with its roundness. But to be honest it'll probably get melted back down!

How do you heat your lead, is there a correct temperature that it needs to be? Is it possible to heat it with a camping type stove like this?

I remember being told roofing lead need to be made harder?
